Recommend Gaming key board?

I currently have a Steal Series Merc Stealth that is about 8 years old. I am looking into getting a better gaming keyboard. I have looked at revues for Razor Black widow Croma, Corsar, and others. Reviews vary depending on what site you are on, so it's hard to decide.

What keyboards do you all use or recommend? I don't care too much about the price just want a good, durable, back-lit, programmable gaming board with dedicated macros. Then there is the question of what type of Mechanical keys Cherry, brown or whatever. Last time I brought a key board they didn't have these options to decide from.

Thanks in advance !

For keyboards I recommend going to a store and trying before you buy, because it's a personal preference thing. If that's not an option I'd start with something like the Strafe from Corsair or similar keyboard from Logitech. I like the keycaps much better on the Strafe, they're slightly textured and imo have a better shape than Logitech's. Avoid both overly flat and overly deep keycaps imo, they're brutal for long-term gaming and irritating as heck for general typing.

The Cherry debate is another reason I recommend trying these keyboards in person first. IMO Browns are good for most gamers and they're the best starting point in the Cherry line. Reds to me are like operating an old-style push button cash register, but some people love them. If you're more interested in Blues I'd recommend a keyboard with rubber dome keys instead, they feel like high-end laptop keyboards and are virtually noiseless. Again some love the feel and some don't.

Thanks for the reply! I have seriously been looking at the Strafe from Corsair. I may just go down to the local best buy and check some out in person then order on-line on black friday or cyber Monday . Thanks again for the advice !

You're welcome. If it wasn't cause for having my gamer card permanently revoked, my favorite gaming keyboard is still my Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro. It's beige even:

The top row of keys are for web browser and media playback control, audio volume etc. All keys work with the standard MS keyboard driver, which is a huge simplifier for games. Also you can actually see keys in a darkened room without any stupid backlighting. :)

That's the same keyboard I used when I played my first PC game when I was just a little kid. I still have the beige tower it came with, it was a Pentium 4 system.

Pulled the trigger on the Logitech G910 Orion spectrum RGB Mechanical gaming keyboard - Chose it over the cosair strafe mainly due to price. Best buy had them on sale for $89.00 (50% off) also got the 2 year warranty for $9.99 - Anything goes wrong they will replace it no questions asked.

It's a 2006 model (I think) but they can still be found NIB on auction sites for roughly half of current ones. We clean ours regularly, once every ten years. :)
