Werne has the similar problem I now have. :/

So, because of the Taliban getting very furious and calling us the terrorists for murdering they're people, military teams are being deployed in small manners. It's a basic "keep everything in order" type of mission. However, I'm one of the people that has to go back, because my squad can "get things done," how they would say it.

And what's worse is that I have to leave A WEEK AFTER GETTING MARRIED, and I'll be there for however long it takes. So, I'm getting married Sunday, so, expect me to be gone a week after. UGH, thought we were PULLING OUT of the war, not GOING BACK IN the war.

All of my convincing so far has proven useless, as they want me and my squad back out there. So we have the deal: I go down there to lead my squad and I get promoted, but I don't and I don't get paid AND I don't get promoted.

So, stuck here, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Well, if it matters any, regardless of what the media says or makes it looks most Americans do support the troops ;)

That whole situation though... >.>

The American who killed a bunch of citizens is wrong, but I'm sure you, as a previously deployed soldier, understand that the taliban love to hide away disguised at citizens an I'm sure they also love stories like this.

What irritates me even more is the fact they will kill a bunch of americans over the burning of a book that *1* american did. It's a messed up place over there. A place where some of their people burn bibles and American flags with their breakfast, and yet when 1 religious book burns they want to see the world burn.

If anything, I'd love to see our troops out and stay on the defensive. Hardly a war worth staying there for >.> Even worse you are missing out on some of the best personal moments in your life. Also that other post. :(

So what can you do? Go have the best time of your life before u deploy :) and perhaps leave your wife a surprise gift before deploying, and send her a letter with hints on it to find it. Why? Because girls love that surprises. :P And because it is unfortunate for her as well.

EDIT: Keep in mind I'm against religious extremism/terrorism in general, not the innocent bystanders that are unfortunately involved in all this.

Not like you get a lot of choice in the matter..... Get married, enjoy the time you have left stateside, do your deployment. Come back in one piece.

Thank you for your service.

I tend to agree though, that I don't see us accomplishing anything in Afghanistan any more. We need to just get the hell out, and let them do as they will. They will be right back to what it was before we showed up on the scene within a month, or at most, a year, after we leave in any event, whether we leave tomorrow, next year, or next decade.

Enjoy the time you have left with the people you love the most. Make those special times even more special. Always keep in mind that, no matter how bad things get, you have a loving family waiting for you the moment you get back.

I have not served in the Armed Forces, but I do have family members that have. Good luck, and come back safe.

Firstly,I agree with HY, and I thank you for your service. I also agree with those who have adivsed that you enjoy the time you have with your loved ones before you leave; but when you get there, keep your focus on the job you have to do over there, and try to get it done and get you and your troops out as safely and in one piece as possible

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm in the UK and we too are supporting the war effort. I've had friends in both war zones and thankfully they have all returned home safely and for that I am immensely grateful. I am also grateful for those still out there risking their lives for me and mine and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what I cannot.

Enjoy the time you have with your new wife, when you leave, speak to her and your friends as often as you can (that's the greatest thing about the internet I believe). Keep in touch with those of us left behind as this will help keep you sane in a world full of insanity.

Here on Nexus we are a family and look after our own, love and respect each other, support and aid each other when needed. We will be here when you need us to talk and to listen.

Good luck, keep safe and I will pray for your safe return.
