Ouch - Witcher 3 nexus is dead

Relatively low tool support, nothing in the way Bethesda give u access to their games. If CDPR actually released the full REDKIT they used to make Witcher 3, i promise u Witcher 3 modding would've been far larger than it currently is.

With my modlist and load order guide on witcher 3 i could revitalized a bit an almost dead community.

 

If you play skyrim or fallout 4 is visible how modding the witcher 3 is far more tedious to do.

 

Tools are not working properly or are really annoying, and the game, even if its a lot beautyful, has the problem that its not much replayable due to heavy dialogues and a lot story based.

 

Bethesda games are easier to mod, easier to personalize in many ways, and the game is less bothering if played many times.

 

Then of course there are people who can play the witcher 3 a lot, but in general is more a 1 run only (included the new game plus)

The Bethesda community is unmatched with any game, the Nexus was built on that community

Look at these numbers

Nexus = Hosting 241,290 files for 488 games

Skyrim = 55,077 = 22%
Skyrim SE = 9,260 = 3.8 %
Oblivion = 28,529 = 11.8/%
Morrowind = 4,643 = 1.9%

Fallout 4 = 21,548 = 8.9%
New Vegas = 18,614 = 7.7%
Fallout 3 = 14,534 = 6.0%

Total = 152,205 = 63%

The Wicher 3 = 2,142= 0.89%
The Witcher 2 = 407 = 0.17%
The Witcher = 174 = 0.07%

The BGS Engine games are an extreme exception, and the core games Nexus mods grew up from.
No games modding, look good when compared to them.

Excluding those 7 Bethesda Games Studios Engine games
Nexus = 89,085 files for 481 games

That gives an average of only 185 mods per game.
Witcher 3 has an healthy number, for a game with poor mod support.
Witcher 2 had better modding tools than any of the Bethesda games, but still got less mods than Witcher 3.

 

As somebody whose been modding this game since the start, Apart from the fact that the tools are not ideal that restricts the ability to mod, which limits numbers, but that isn't the only reason.

 

CDPR fixed most of their bugs, and added many of the best mods to the base game.

Every single update CDPR provided, made half my mod list obsolete, so many mods are no longer even needed.

 

A lot of v1.22 mods still work with 1,31 GOTY edition, and never needed an update, and plenty of mod makers stop modding once they stop playing, with most games only a dedicated hard core keep at it.

Many of those abandoned mods are actually updated by other mod makers. See this "Mod".

If you compare everything to Skyrim, you'll always be disappointed, stop looking at what isn't there, and start looking at what is actually available.

Generally you don't need to make drastic changes to the Witcher game, and with more than 2000 mods to choose from, there's lots of choice.

 

Final point is, you don't even need an active community to use mods, once devs stop patching the game, most mods work forever.

Some of the best games to mod have little to no current activity, though finding mods for long dead games can be more difficult, other sites do exist for many games.

Nexus has become popular only since Skyrim, ModDB , and others before it. and for many games, there are sites dedicated to just that game/franchise.

I looked at that unofficial 1.30-1.31 mod, but all it is is old mods zipped. Some even older than the ones on nexus! The ones I tried did not work for me. The older mods (pre 1.31) also don't work (at least the ones I tried). Nexus been popular since oblivion/fallout 3. I have some mods myself uploaded for oblivion. Skyrim exploded in mods, so much replayability. I think it's the replayability that keeps it alive. fallout series is like that. It keep going for years. Fallout 3 is basically dead now. New Vegas has 20 new mods for this week.......still going. Fallout 4 over 90 mods this week). Pretty sure skyrim is still alive and well still (13 new mods just for today). Witcher, however, not so much for replayability. (4 mods for this week).

i agree with all of the above, the only missing mod that would make the game complete for me is boob physics, i use about 20 mods that make the game almost as enjoyable as skyrim/fallout 4, i suggest that one reason for nmm being dead for this game is that you cant add some mods without using script merger, so nmm is not needed and also no creation kit for easy modding.

I've noticed mods that simply added stuff to merchants conflicted, even though there would be no conflict in any other game. Only the script merger will fix it. Talk about a learning curve trying to learn how to use it. I could only find 23 mods I could use. Some obviously needed script merger to work.

Friends, I wish I could do some modding. I don't have that ability.

 

I just bought the GOTY edition, two days ago, and I am completely blown away by this game. Currently, I have ordered a controller, finding mouse and keyboard inadequate for it. I expect to start playing again, this Thursday

 

@computertech82, I've noticed the same thing about the mods that you have. Another thing I've noticed is the tendency of come modders to create mods that enhance the ... shall we say? ... more adult aspects of the game. I'm not a prude, but Witcher 3 is great, as it is downloaded. If anyone needs anything else, go rent a xxx movie. I see no need for it, in the game. In Oldrim and Skyrim SE, I only added mods that added good faces to the ladies, who tended to be rather ugly in the vanilla games, and a few miniskirts.

 

Could you list your favorite mods, just for my information? And do you use mod merger, instead of NMM?

 

Given the popularity of this game ... and Hodor's enthusiastic endorsement of it ... I would have expected thousands of mods for Witcher 3, by now ...
