Resonance50
I have recently downloaded OBSE so that I can use the mods that require it. But OBSE only seems to run properly when I start oblivion using 'obse_loader.exe' (located in my oblivion installation folder) and not when I use 'oblivion launcher.exe' which I prefer as this opens as soon as I put in my oblivion disc and oblivion launcher brings up the menu with the 'data files' and graphics options. Is this fixable or am I just going to have to live with this change? :( I have read the 'read me' file and can't see how to fix this. Also in the read me it seems to say that if I want create/edit any scripts that require OBSE I have to launch CS with obse_loader and the only way to do this is by using command prompt! This is going to be a hassle if I'll have to do this every time I want to open CS to edit an OBSE script. Please say there is more user friendly way? I am aware of the irony that I'm complaining about using command prompt if I'm about to edit a script anyway.

It isn't a mod, it is obligatory to launch it if is to use its function. There is no way other to do so else using its loader, period. you can launcher it using OBMM, but I suggest you using another utility named The obse launcher (click this link). This utility will permit you launching oblivion with or without OBSE. The CS with or without OBSE... launch OBMM, activate and deactivate ESPs (to change order use OBMM) and even another utility you can find useful. All in just one icon in the desktop. PS Edit: Maybe is useful to know you can pass parameters in icons. Says, you could place an shortcut to the obse_loader.exe in the desktop and use it (even change the icon)... and more, you could do it again and add "-editor" after the exe (without the quotes and separated with one blank space), to launch the CS. Needles to say this is done in the properties, not in the shortcut name, that can be anyone. As to launch the Oblivion_launcher isn't a good idea as using the graphic options there can have adverse effects in the current working .ini configuration
Resonance50
Thanks, obse launcher works really well, this was pretty much what I was hoping for. :) Initially I thought that maybe there would be a replacement oblivion.exe file but now I suspect that would be in breach of copyright and would have various other problems. As for the graphics options, I thought there were some things that could only be changed by using the options in the launcher, screen resolution and distant landscape etc.? The one that would claim for specific use would be the configuration (the one you can specify the video card and other options alike). The common options can be accessed even before actually loading the saved or new game. But the problems renaming Oblivion.exe are yet worse, ranging from malfunction to complete stop of the game. But the reason of this reply is since you have already got the OBSE launcher, in its tab "utilities" there is a reference to another utility named Oblivion Character Manager you may find interesting (OBMM is a "must have" so not even need to recommend). This char manager permit having many characters and they will never mix, provided they have different names. Even the auto and quick saves will be placed in separated folds. good luck and have fun
Resonance50
Yer I have OBMM, it's great and user friendly. I was wondering about the 'Character Manager' actually, it sounds pretty good though, does it allow for having different .esp for different characters? The reason I ask is it would be useful to have Frans mod on one character but not another.I still can't get the obse launcher to appear with the disc auto-run (when you put the disc in the machine that is). But I'm not going to get bogged down with this as obse launcher has greatly improved so much already. I think another issue with creating a new oblivion.exe file would be that it would need to run on every machine, and (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't that effectively making a cracked version of oblivion that would allow unlicensed copies to run? Thus breaching copyright? Sorry this is a little off topic. Thanks for all your help. EDIT: Don't worry I just downloaded character manager it doesn't look as if you can assign specific mods to specific characters, I'm not too suprised really, still apart from that I'm very impressed. Oblivion Character Manager use this scanning that folder and creating so many others inside it as char names (note is the actual name of the char it checks, not the ESS name) and move all files pertaining to each char to the respective folder disregarding the ess name. once you make certain character active the program will make the correction in the save path in the Oblivion.ini so all saves will be placed in that folder, and loaded from there too. Note this have nothing to do with ESPs. I think another issue with creating a new oblivion.exe file would be that it would need to run on every machine, and (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't that effectively making a cracked version of oblivion that would allow unlicensed copies to run? Since you can't have two files with the same name in the same folder, at least you need change OBSE to search for another name... so much trouble where don't having autorun is just a minor nuisance. Thanks for all your help. EDIT: Don't worry I just downloaded character manager it doesn't look as if you can assign specific mods to specific characters, I'm not too suprised really, still apart from that I'm very impressed.Correct, to modify the active mods I don't know if already have some utility that does it, and is dangerous issue as some mods can't just be deactivated leaving files in the /data structure... In this case you need to deactivate then by hand and be sure what is being done.

Thanks for all your help, you have cleared alot of things up for me. :thanks: Kudos
