Breton all the way! Morrowind and Oblivion... both are fair skinned and magically inclined. So with both my characters they were Mage/Archers and if I did have to go melee.. I always kept daggers around. I tend to like small blades than the big lunkers.

Morrowind : Mage <archer>

Name : Junkoyumi

Breton

Oblivion : Mage <archer>

Name : Aoikani <what else> ? :)

Breton

So I did vote for both as Bretons, but I have been dabbling a lot with Dark Elves lately. Mostly because of the The Underdark mod [WIP]

Aoikani

I voted Breton as well for the obvious reason of having more magicka and a higher resistance to it, really is useful if you’re born under the sign of the mage as well.

But I have to disagree about the Khajiits, the first time I played oblivion through I was a Khajiit and found it really useful especially at lower levels. The eye of night was pretty convenient and even better if you used the night eye toggle mod (I didn't class this as cheating because it didn’t use any magicka anyway) and eye of fear was also really handy at lower levels for getting any patrolling guards to run away if you wanted to break in anywhere or commit a crime. Not so great when in combat and it could only be cast once a day but it still had its uses. As for the lack of personality I really don't think it hinders the game play at all, it’s still easy to get NPC deposition up.

I do have a cat, does this make me bias? I'm not sure.

I haven't played Morrowind (yet?!?), so I can only answer for Oblivion. For me it depends on whether I'm looking more at gameplay aspects or roleplaying aspects.

For gameplay: Bretons. The magicka bonus & resistance is better than any other race's benefits (IMO). The slower run speed is a downer, and the height thing took some getting used to though (I'm 6'3" and looking up into someone's face is a very rare thing for me). Otherwise, a great all round character race (capable of practically anything).

For roleplaying: Nords. Besides being the closest race to Canadians ( ;) ), the combat focus of their lore and their size / height is a good fit for the type of role I can relate to.

Wood Elf. But I feel the game didn't make them more "one with nature" as they could have.

Yeah... They seem too "civilized" I guess.

I suppose that Beth Soft didn't want to rip-off LOTR though... Talk about major law-suit issues.

They were originally called Bosmer, but they got the name "Wood Elves" from somewhere... Probably a fan suggestion...

Wood elves have been around longer than LOTR. About 500 years ago, people put charms on things so they would't get "elf shot". How elves became deminutive creatures by then, I've never been able to find out. At least Tolkein and others made them tall, like the Sidhe were. But, better a wood elf than a livin' in the dirt like a dwarf the Alyeids were.

Hmmm... So far the only race that hasn't been voted for at all is the Khajiit... I wonder why...

Interesting results with the Bretons. I suppose people pick them, because they are the closest race to being "Human" without actually being human (Redguards are actually not a "Human" race. There was something I read once describing how they were "not from this planet" (Nirn). It was rather interesting, actually. ).
