BlindCowboy88
Good morning.First time posting, searched but didn't find what I was looking for.I'm running fallout 4 on a new rig, my old rig bottlenecked at the cpu, new rig is fine, but I want better graphics now. Old rig was Intel core2duo e8500 with 8gb ddr2 6400 and Radeon r7 250 2gb, which played at medium but bottlenecked at the cpu. I came across a really good deal ($50) for a new tower, mb, CPU, and PSU...AMD fx8350, 8gb ddr3 12800, and Radeon r7 250 from my old build, now it plays medium without any bottlenecking so far (haven't played much since I'm working on getting mods running again), but I want to run on high or ultra, however, my monitor only supports up to 1680x1050@60hz. I want to stick with Radeon as it matches the cpu, but I'm not dead set on it, I really don't want to spend more than $100, but I will consider up to $150. Anyone have any idea what GPU would be the best match for my desires? I'm hoping for 40-60 fps, I started playing it on the old rig with a gt 730...so it's already alot better, but would like to use the new rig to it's full potential. JimmyRJump
Search on eBay for anything R9, as long as it has an 80 or 90 at the end. Or even an older 7970 or 7870 would cut the mustard. I ran Skyrim in ultra (1080p) back in 2011 with both an MSI GTX460 HAWK and a Sapphire HD6970 (in different rigs). Keep in mind that the higher the last digits, the stronger the GPU. Don't go below a 60 for NVidia or 80 for AMD. When upgrading to a heftier GPU, keep an eye on what kind of power supply you have. A GPU 6-pins PCIe connector draws a max of 75W, an 8-pins draws a max of 150W. Motherboard gives 75W through the PCIe slot. Your CPU draws around 90W. Add 10W per HDD and another 50 for RAM. A good brand (Antec, Corsair, CoolerMaster, Silverstone) 500W power supply should cover the business. A Generic 350 to 400W supply is on the brink of not enough power, depending on what GPU you're getting.
Bernt
I built a new rig last spring. I went for this one because of what I gathered from tests and comparison I read. I is the not fastest - nor was it last year. Still - as far as power/money ratio it was a good buy. Moreover - it is very quiet. Even under heavy load.Until now I've been very satisfied with the performance - Fallout and everything else. Runs ultra - or high with heavy retex mods- in 24" 1080x1920.I've put it on an MSI Gaming MB with an Intel 5820K, 16 Gb ram and a 750W PSU - just to make room for upgrades. http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=D4AC4856-9166-4C37-A7D6-ECDD3EEB4C17&lang=eng
