Actual working breweries

One of the things that bothers me in FO4 is how there's a huge variety of different beers with cool branding and two breweries and yet the only mention of anyone brewing anything is Bobrov or Deezer (or a poor shmuck moonshiner that explodes himself). Considering that people have been fermenting everything they can since the dawn of time I refuse to believe that only one dude is making beer.

 

The most obvious location is Beantown Brewery; it's in a peaceful area and right near the trainline. The problem is that there's raiders inside and the quest Confidence Man takes place there so I either need to move that quest to a new location or change it somehow so you don't need to kill everyone.

 

Second is Gwinnett Brewery which doesn't have any major quests but is host to a bunch of radiant quests and is in a dangerous area so I'll have to do a lot of clearing up around it.

 

My final option is to build a new brewery from scratch based on real-life Boston breweries like Bunker Hill Brewery, H & J Pfaff, Haffenreffer, Bad Martha, etc.

 

So how would it work?

 

One of my first thoughts was brokering a deal with them with your settlements - you ship things like razor grain/mutfruit/melons/etc for caps which will lower your available food but your settlement drink vendors will give extra happiness.

 

If more than one brewery exists you can be hired to sabotage the other by ruining their equipment, killing someone (or everyone), or poison their supply.

 

Being hired to experiment with new flavors where you can mix various ingredients together (some safe, some not) and give it to people to try. Be prepared for the consequences if they die!

 

 

If you like this idea please feel free to give critiques, suggestions, etc. This is a pie-in-the-sky idea that I won't be able to work on anytime soon but I just wanted some feedback.

SimSettlements: Industrial Revolution has a brewery which works somewhat similar to how you described. It's one of the possible lvl2 upgrades of the community well.

You get discoverable recipes and you can also throw in stuff to try to discover them.

 

But what you seem to request is a quest mod. That would be even better, I agree. Several warring brewer factions, with NPCs with a beer obsession bordering on religious zeal.

 

Do quests for them, take out the competition, rise to become The Brewmaster!

Not just sabotaging or assasiniating. Steal the competitors' secret formula. Bribe or threaten barkeepers so that they only sell your beer. Bribe or threaten traders so that they don't supply the competition. Make a deal with raiders or trick them to attack the competitors. Lure wild animals to their brewery.

I think a capable quest modder with an access to voice actor could make an awesome mod here.

but I was very disappointed to see the values entered for item results. Things like -75 perspective. I don't know whether it's just the item description or actual effect but those item effects would put values way out of bounds, so after building one boozery I'm uninstalling it.

Oh wow, I never considered some of these ideas! Becoming the Brewmaster King/Queen of the Commonwealth would be awesome! I'm gonna write these down and keep them in mind.

I like the idea! I made something comparable for some kind of "other" products (which are not following the high standards of brewing) : https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15776?

 

It is actually very easy to add new recipes to the contraption machines, so switching a vanilla machine to different kind of beers is done in a few minutes.

 

A skilled modder could add same building elements of the gwinnett brewery (maybe some pipes or tanks) to the workshop menu.

 

Also creating crates with bottles is not complicated using nifskope. I made one for soylent cola

You could use the devices of manufacturing extended to get empty clean bottles out of the workbench which will be transported into the contraption machine and on the other side the full beer bottles will come out.

It maybe would be even possbile to add some more steps: empty bottles>full bottles>crate of full bottles

 

 

If i haven't stopped modding a year ago, this is something i would look into

 

But this would just cover the production process, not the storyline and the "market entry" into the commonwealth.
