the famous sound problem

I have experiencing a very strange sound problem. We all know that Skyrim has that 5.1 surround sound bug, and I have fixed that (forgot checked stereo or visual surround).

However now I have another problem, sometimes the sound just lose the depth (like bass and some voices) and it even happen after I quit game back to desktop. This sound problem still appear when I am just playing media on desktop or playing other games. I once though it must be because bad contact of cables. But after few weeks without skyrim (because of Fallout 4), the problem had gone.

Now I reinstall Skyrim again, and this strange problem appear again. I cant find any fix or similar problem on internet, I guess I should just leave Skyrim.

Set your speaker system to stereo. I had a weird issue where, at the very beginning of the game when getting off the cart in Helgen, the empire soldier calling the names and talking to you, was almost inaudible. Setting my speaker system to stereo brought his sound back to normal.

I use an old Creative Fatal1ty card with a Logitech Z5500 5.1 surround set and the difference in sound when playing SSE is negligable, except for the parts that were almost turned to silence. I guess it's a question of bad coding so that the de-coder sends some of the sound to the wrong speaker(s).

thanks for the reply. i did set the system to stereo via the realtek sound setting on desktop. it works fine in the game, i can hear voice when npc stand in fornt of me. but the depth of audio just cut in and out, and it happens too when i am on desktop, not in the game.

Then there's something else that is affecting your sound.

Have you checked the computer's sound settings? There's the odd chance the setting used isn't fully supported somehow by the game.

Go to Control Panel/Sound. In the menu (Playback tab) search for the audio device that has a green tick sitting next to it, select it and click "Properties" bottom right. In the new menu, under the "Advanced" tab, see to it that the Default Format is set to 24 bit, 48000Hz (studio quality) or 16 bit, 44100Hz (CD Quality) and see what gives.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry for the late reply, I have the problem solved by checked the "loudness equalization" in Realtak high definition audio, although the sound is not good, but at least I can hear everything. Thanks for the support!

Cheers for getting back with a solution. Good to hear you have it, more or less, sorted.
