Tourniquet5
Ok well basically from what I gather, any mod that I dl that "needs" the Updated Version of Oblivion, doesnt work for me. I bought the GOTY Edition, and after trying to DL the patches and having "cant find old folder" messages, I decided to call Bethesda myself. Turns out the Game of the Year Edition is already patched. I've installed many many many things before so I know I'm placing the files right. But when it comes to Activating the Esp file is where I FAIL..... Please help me Resolve this, seeing as how all the Fine tuned and awesome Mods need the "Updated" version. Oh and btw if someone could help me setup Screenshots that would be awesome. I tried to edit Oblivion default Readme and found some instructions what I have to retype. and when I hit print screen its saying "Oblivion4bmp" created or something. so Im guessing im not too far off. :|
LHammonds
I've installed many many many things before so I know I'm placing the files right. But when it comes to Activating the Esp file is where I FAILJust what do you mean by "fail"??? Are you able to place a checkmark by the esp file and just cannot see the result in-game or do you not see the plugin to enable it or are you not even enabling the plugins because you are not going into Oblivion's Launcher --> Data Files? If you are using Vista, be sure to NOT install Oblivion to the default folder under C:\Program Files\ because of security issues while trying to extract mod archives to Oblivion's Data folder. Instead, install Oblivion to someplace like C:\Oblivion or D:\Games\Oblivion. Maybe it would be best if you simply read the Oblivion Mods FAQ. LHammonds
Ty for the Reply mate. and after I load up the ESP file in the Data and launch the Game I Crash to Desktop. but if i unclick the esp the game loads fine. yes I have Vista. what do you suggest I do? I have a External hard drive if that helps.I already gave you my recommendation:If you are using Vista, be sure to NOT install Oblivion to the default folder under C:\Program Files\ because of security issues while trying to extract mod archives to Oblivion's Data folder. Instead, install Oblivion to someplace like C:\Oblivion or D:\Games\Oblivion.If your game is installed to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\, then you really should uninstall the game and install it somewhere else such as C:\Oblivion\ to avoid the security issues regarding mods. I've seen people download mods that do not understand archives and have simply renamed a file such as MyMod.7z to MyMod.esp and try to run the game and end up with a CTD. Make sure you didn't do this. To ensure the .esp plugin is valid, use a plugin tool such as TESsnip or The Construction Set to open the .esp plugin to verify that it is indeed a good file. After that, make sure all the meshes (NIF files) and textures (DDS files) that are in the mod exist in Oblivion's Data folder. If the archive contains the following file inside it: Meshes\Armor\Ninja\cuirass.nifYou should find it in Oblivion's Data folder such as: C:\Oblivion\Data\Meshes\Armor\Ninja\cuirass.nif LHammonds
Naminea
Some times load orders can crash your game, if what LHammond is saying doesnt work try changing the load orders.
bben46
I believe that the GOTY edition still needs the latest patch. check to see if it has the v1.2.0416 as that is the latest. Note that if you have SI installed, you do not need the Oblivion patch, just the SI patch. If you do not have SI, you will need the Oblivion patch for your language version - there are 2 English versions, one for US and one for UK versions - they are different. - there is only one English SI patch though. You do not specify what mod is causing the problem, so I can't say if it needs OBSE or not. check the readme that came with it. If it requires OBSE, then it will crash if OBSE is not running. OBSE must be started every time before oblivion - see the OBSE documentation for how to do this. as to screenshots, it sounds as if they are being made, you just need to find the folder where they are being stored. Try searching for the name it gives when you try to take the screenshot.

I've helped a couple of people with the GOTY and they never needed to apply a patch because it was already 1.2.0416. LHammonds
