Oblivion Freze Frame and fails to exit

Oblivion is failing to exit :wallbash: I save then try to exit, and it just freeze frames and sits there. I can quit with qqq but I would like it to function correctly. :confused: . As it is I have to use task manager to quit if I forget and try to exit.

This is one of the most annoying issues of modded Oblivion, and isn't easy to correct if possible at all. Myself have it crashing with a message when quiting and it's for good since I know this one you report. That issue you are getting is very annoying. and is need a lot of "malabarismo" trying to find the task manager under the froze screen to try and force its downfall.

 

This problem seems to be related with the poor way oblivion deals with the RAM (I know, I saw the amount you have). Seems it don't knows how to unload some of the things the engine loaded in the memory. Most of times it terminate for itself even if take minutes to do it, other times it got deadly froze indeed.

 

The fact is no one have an answer to this yet, at least no one I know.

 

About your mods, most of then I don't use or even know, so I can't say if the order is correct (both, the load order and installation one). But I'm sure there is something wrong with it. The only way to solve this issue is a thoroughly inspection the compatibility they may have. And so deciding what ones must be installed first (attention, not just the load order of the esp/esm).

 

Besides even changing one at time the "loading order" and noting the results, may help.

Thanks I am working through that now but I don't find any obvious conflicts with either TES4View or OBMM. Well not that would cause that. The conflicts that there are, are all resolved and balanced pretty delicately so a specific idea would be very helpful but I'll keep looking.

I wish I had some specific idea. Since it's related with the mods and order, maybe will never exist a specific one.

 

Edit: I got an issue yet worse when tried the BALO function of Wrye Bash and it changed my load order... all the save games froze at certain point in tle load screen (visible in the gauge), yet a new one would work. As I had saved the load order in OBMM I could restore it and after grouping with care.

 

Edit PS: Not freeze indeed, the gauge would not advance, but I yet had mouse control and could ALT TAB it.

 

So this is even valid in your case as experience. Make a new game and look if the game freezes.

The easiest solution would be to slim down the number of mods you're using. Often when you have issues like this, its because the game is attempting to handle too much at once. Fewer mods means less memory being taken up by mods, which means that there will be less to unload. Given the number of issues you've been reporting the last few weeks, you might even end up clearing some of those in the process.

Indeed this seems to be a "deadlock" issue ... something the game try unloading but some other depends on it, and this other too depends on the first. Something like cross reference.

 

For this reason not even having enough memory to deal with all they at a time solves the problem. Besides you report using Vista. Famous for being machine resources demanding, what turns the advice of reducing the mods a very sound one. Once you have a more stable setup you can return the mods one at a time and test until finding the culprits.

 

PS Edit: Sometimes having more memory can be even worse in these cases. What remember the infamous situation win9x had. It was able to "see" above 128MB of RAM and so tried to load more modules than really necessary. But the memory manager was unable to deal with more than those 128MB and so the system, in paradox way, turned out more slow with more RAM.

Thanks guys I am looking to slim it down I have been replacing and removing MODs trying to get the ideal playing feeling out of the game and I've got it just about there, but I'll go over a few more times to see what I can get rid of. :thanks:

I think I've located the problem Tears of the Fiend (TOTF.esp) and Origin of the mage guild are conflicting over 13 Globals and that could cause the problem both fighting over which global to terminate and save I'm going to see if I can tweak them into submission and see if that helps. :smile:
