Axisdeath
Clipping, and people bitching about clipping.. That would be MY major reason to do somthing like that. Also modders are artists they want their art to look its best, somtimes that means not allowing people to break up their armors. That and it takes time, some people do not want to take the time to do somthing they do not care about themselves. Maybe they like the one piece armor types, it is their mod so they mod for themselves first. Clipping and people bitching about clipping. I put that twice. True. It seems that when you equip only a piece of awesome armor it clips terribly with almost any other thing you have equipped. If you let the players mix'n'match, you end up with dozens of requests for compatibility patches and clipping 'fixes'. No i mean like where the boot for the armor arn't anything. There just armor points, and the actual appearance of the boots is part of the body armor. I quoted the wrong person. That was ment for Raestloz Edited March 29, 2012 by Axisdeath
jimhsu
Making custom armor that works perfectly with the vanilla armors as far as clipping, etc goes is a hard problem. In fact, to call it hard would be a understatement. If you doubt me, go fire up 3ds max, separate the meshes, and then try to solve the massive clipping issues that crop up. The only custom armors that do work with this in mind are typically the skimpy ones (i.e the ones that are wrapped around a body and have skin between the hands / feet areas, if only because there are no armor meshes overlying that area. Those armors are the ones that typically are in fact separated. So, no, it's usually not people being lazy. If so, go do some custom armor design and prove them wrong. That was ment for Raestloz The main point of that IMO is that having a boot that a) doesn't show up is less visually jarring than b) having a hole where your feet are supposed to be. I've taken to simply making custom armors as one piece affairs -- e.g. equipping a cuirass would automatically unequip any feet or hand armor that you might have. Saves complaints that way, except for the ones about "stealing 4 of my enchantment slots" in which cases there are mods to fix that and more. Moral of the story: whatever you do, people will complain (and they're getting it for free! psh.) You can a) ignore them, or b) make it so that you get the least complaints. jmike00
Actually what I think is that the majority of armor mods being released are ports from Oblivion which worked fine then but with Skyrim's new system they don't work well. I have minimal experience with 3dsMax, Nifskope, etc and I have managed to port over several armors for personal use and they all have the same issues. What you have are people with not much more experience than I do porting armor over and uploading it. There's been very few armor mods built with Skyrim specifically in mind so far and those that have don't have this problem.
Ghogiel
its really not possible to make a suit tho that will be fully compatible with every mix and match option in the game.No it is. To the extent that vanilla armor is compatible with each other at least (which does clip sometimes, so allowing for that...). With the combined cuirass and greaves it has eliminated 90% of any headache, testing, and major potential clipping errors that might happen with the vanilla armor. There is only minor restriction in how to terminate at the wrists and ankles. Most modded armor really can be compatible with other gloves and boots and vice versa. It is not possible to make it fully compatible with every modded asset though. Edited March 30, 2012 by Ghogiel
