Correct Normal Map setting for NVidia DDS Plugin?

Hi There,

 

 

I was trying to fix the nipple problem on http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6232 when I ran into another problem,.. saving the normal map becomes "blocky" in Skyrim... See screenshots in attachment.

 

I have censored the nipples because I am a little bit unsure on the nudity law here on the Forums.

 

A bit chance in the file is the filesize,...

The original version is a 1K and is 3MB large. But when I saved the file again after a few nipple tweaks,....... ahem,.. the filesize was only 683kb,.. what the?!?

So clearly, I need some special setting for saving Normal Maps in PhotoShop using the NVidia DDS Plugin,...

 

and clearly I am one of those damn noobs when it comes to this kind of modding,... but remember, we have all been noobs ;)

use 8.8.8 RGB to avoid compression artefacts, but it won't be as small as 3MB.. what the original is likely doing is not using mipmaps, which is :rolleyes: .. so you should use them. I've explained why it's silly not to use them several time and yet... Edited by Ghogiel

thanks, I tried that setting as well and the normal map came out smooth, but as you also say the filesize was indeed different because i also had mipmap turned on :D but if you say good for it, i will use that setting,... now i just need to figure out a way to reset this damn thing :D because right now it is creating some vivid 24bit maps,... but they are smooth (and big) :D

with 8.8.8 RGB photoshop produces equal file sizes but game crashes when it tries use the normal map =\

any ideas?

 

i'm sure there lot of people who had their hand on normal maps..
