Trying to Make a Texture Pack, can't view any existing Textures?

I tried opening up some of the dds files from textures.pak to view them with XnView but I can't seem to see anything.

I would like to start work on replacing some of these low-res textures with improved ones. I only tried with Dolphin in the past and it was fairly easy.

I'm not sure if you need to adhere to strict checksum/file sizes with games like these. Can I just replace the file with a new one using the existing filename and format?

Anyway if anyone with prior experience can give some suggestions that'd be great thanks!

The first issue is definitely sorting why everything is just coming up blank or black in XnView when trying to expose the existing textures.

EDIT: So I've got some leads on the issue from various threads in the CryEngine forum and their official documentation. Something to do with CryEngine splitting the DDS files for less memory consumption? I still don't really know what the fix is though. The file included in the third link doesn't work anymore so I'm kind of at a wall.

There used to be a tool called UnsplitDDS for Cryengine games but it was discontinued and all the links are dead. The new tool was built specifically for Star Citizen, so it might not work but you can give it a try.

UnsplitDDS required you to rename the normal DDS file to dds.0 in keeping with the other split files, but I don't know if SC texture converter has the same requirement.

E.g. default_mat_warning.dds -> default_mat_warning.dds.0

I tested that tool and unfortunately it doesn't seem to work anymore, or there is some incompatibilities with KC:D's files.

Hi

I'm on it too.

Dont-worry. lol

I can rework all textures when is possible, grounds, trees....we just need to find a solution

Same problem with Elex, i can change a sound or other, but textures dosent work ! with photoshop, gimp, dxtbmp, dds viewer, etc etc etc etc....

The problem is the consols version, maybe we can search in the "developement tools for consols"...Elex is on console too !

+ sorry for my english !

Maybe we can try something in first :

In a bad english sorry...

We can try to replace a texture (ground for exemple) by an existing texture in game ! in a better resolution  or from another game, mod....or if it work by our textures...

TEST 1 : copy a texture from the unpacked file, rename it like "ground_grass_01" see the names in game....

Try a following of folder like : c/ steam....kindom come D....

is it working ?! the ground texture is modified...?

TEST 2 : if it work !!!

Just take a look at the textures names in game from the unpacked files.

ground...DDS, grass...DDS, rock.DDS, etc... and simply replace it by news in HD ! or by another texture -> from the game too, but in a better resolution, if possible....

Make a copy of "ground_high".dds and rename it "ground_low".dds...
