Is it possible to rename a mod ?

Vortex should not have released until it at least had the functionality of NMM.

Given that there is likely some functionality of NMM that will never be implemented, that basically means that Vortex would never be released.

As well, this is an alpha, which is clearly posted in multiple places on the download page. It's not a stretch to think that there might still be some features not fully implemented.

Programs like this are never feature complete. There's always something. Claiming that it shouldn't have been released is like saying that one shouldn't taste the soup until it's on the table.

I'm not asking for an outrageous feature, it's basic functionality that already exists for part of the program, renaming files is basic functionality in almost every program of this nature and it's silly not to make it available for downloads.

You are not asking for an outrageous feature but ppl on the internet just love to tell you why you are wrong. Anyways this feature should absolutely be included.

It isn't released, it is in alpha, not even beta yet so there is a lot of work for them to do. I do hope they add the option to rename downloads at some point even if they aren't installed. What I could possibly do by accident shouldn't take away functionality.

Hmm, problem with this is, that a common user would rename it, then blame it on Vortex. An experienced user is not common.

Simple solution for that is to add the renaming feature to the Advanced mode, so that the common users wouldn't get access to it without enabling the mode first. I think that most common users don't enable the Advanced mode anyway.

Some mods have several optional plugins with them and sometimes the mod author only names them as "Plugin fix" or something like that. As the mods pile up in the Vortex, it makes it really hard to tell which mod that optional file belongs to.

so it's kinda irritating that we can't rename the mods without installing them first. This makes the mods list quite messy and some optional mod files can be quite hard to find if you have a huge library.

If we had an option to rename those files as we download them, we could keep the mods list nice and clean.

The NMM has the option to freely rename your mods to whatever and whenever you wanted, so why can't we experienced users have that same option in the Vortex too?

I'm not trying to judge the Vortex team or anything. I'm thankful for all their hard they're doing for us. But there's always room for improvement.

ps. Sorry for necroing.

I agree with this. When you have dozens of downloaded optional files with such descriptive names like "hotfix" or "Verdant compatibility patch" with no reference to the original mod it's supposed to be patching, it's quite messy. Especially, if you're like me, you don't apply the patch immediately because you only installed one of the 2 pre-requisite mods for testing before implementing the other one.

An advanced user doesn't have a problem navigating to the download folder and rename the download just using normal means (File Explorer or whatever).

Problem is that when a file is renamed in the downloads folder, Vortex does lose the meta data for it. Then, when you try to get Vortex to recognize the mod again by re-entering the data, when you get to the guess download ID it will rename the mod back to the original name again.

I have to say, I have many mods that would benefit from being able to re-name them BEFORE installing so that they can be grouped together with their required mods in their groups. Look at DX Armors, they alone have at least a dozen or more other mods that either change physics, colors or full re-texures. Problem is that even the original DX armors do not have the DX in the name on about half of them. So you have to look for the armor name without the DX to install it first then go back to the armor mod that changes it that actually does have the DX in the name. If we could re-name them before installing, the mods could be one right after the other instead of being a half a page or more away.

On a side note, re-naming after install is not permanent. If for any reason that a mod has to be re-installed or if heaven forbid, an HD dies and the game has to be re-installed and the download folder is on another HD like mine is (and what has happened to me), the name reverts back to the original name.
