Tantalus010
Hi, I'm trying to edit a mesh for a one-handed sword and turn it into a two-handed sword in Skyrim. I've already done all the edits in the CK, but when I equip the sword, it goes on my character's hip as though it is still a one-handed sword. If I unsheathe it, the sword stays in its scabbard but my character uses all the two-handed animations. In short, it seems as though the game thinks it's a two-handed sword but the mesh file disagrees with the game. To that end, I loaded the mesh in NifSkope and started changing instances of SteelSword to SteelGreatsword, WeaponSword to WeaponGreatsword (I've also tried WeaponBack and BackWeapon), etc. I changed every entry of these things I could find and it had no effect on the in-game behavior. My question is this - exactly what do I need to do in NifSkope to get the mesh to work as a two-handed sword? I've been doing google search after google search and have come up empty-handed. I would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks! EDIT: Okay, so now I'm more confused than before. I've read all over the place that all you have to do to make a one handed weapon mesh into a two handed weapon mesh is change WeaponSword to WeaponBack in NifSkope. That's what I've been trying over and over again with a one handed sword mesh from an existing mod (I was doing all this on a duplicate mesh file that I created via copy/paste), and it never worked, as I mentioned above. However, when I tried the exact same thing with the original mesh from the mod, it worked just fine. Can somebody please explain this one to me? How is the duplicate mesh different from the original? Ghogiel
Ok sounds weird....In your entry in the CK, you tried linking in a known working 2hander nif? as in a vanilla sword for example. If what you describe still happens. It is your weapon entries CK setup that is incorrect and likely not a nif problem. alternatively it appears you actually have a Scb node still in the nif, do those even work on back weapons? could that be throwing it off? For the record it is "WeaponBack", trying BackWeapon or anything else will not work. Edited April 8, 2012 by Ghogiel

I did what you suggested; used a modified DwarvenGreatsword nif from another mod in my CK setup and it worked just fine. It seems that there is definitely something wrong with the use of a copied mesh somehow. I don't understand why; all I did was copy and paste it, then rename it; the actual file itself should be identical to the original, shouldn't it? The entries in NifSkope look identical anyway. Tantalus010
Thanks for replying, BlutKult, but I actually gave up on this long ago and settled on just changing the original sword over to two-handed. What you describe doing is a bit different than what I was doing, so it might've worked. At any rate, Mithrodin looks pretty awesome - great job with that!
