zeata23
hmm.... well caffeine withdrawal makes it really hard to quit, so i guess coffee could work i don't think im quite ready to walk home every day, way too much traffic (large roads (3 or 4) to get to my house) other than that, it seems easy enough so far

Werne
i've got a few steps, but nothing drastic: 1. No lunch ( i usually eat a big lunch...) 2. Less Soda 3. go to a gym (when i fell i won't break a treadmill)Not having lunch is not a good idea, it would be better to have no dinner, or at least light dinner. It's important to eat early in the day (breakfast, lunch) and that's not something to be skipped because you'll have less energy during the day so you'd get exhausted pretty fast, which is not a good thing. Exercise is a good thing though, you won't lose too much weight (as in body weight, since muscles you develop by exercising are heavier than fat) but you won't be obese. Getting your body in shape is a long and hard process but it's better for you to do it now, before it becomes a health problem. And one more thing, you probably have stretch marks on your skin, most likely on shoulders, abdomen or thighs. If you do, you'll probably never get rid of those, I've been trying for years without success. never mind wrong thread, should be in the i win game :teehee:Don't worry Thor, I'll be there in a minute to make sure you don't win. bben46
You have already made the first and most important step - You, not someone else have decided to lose weight. First, don't fall for any of those fad diets. in fact, don't diet at all. just learn to stop eating when you are full. Sounds simple, it's not (experience) Much better, and actually easier than dieting is to change your eating habits to eat less. Then to keep the weight off, keep the new habits instead of going back to the old ones. Some tricks - NEVER get seconds, No soda, not even the diet stuff. Don't skip meals, you will eat twice as much at the next meal when you are hungry. if you really need a snack between meals - an apple, carrot sticks, piece of fruit. Don't eat fast foods - they are the worst thing you can eat when you are trying to lose weight. - I can gain 5 pounds from just looking at french fries. Cut down - way down on any restaurant food. They always add sugar and extra fat for flavor. And load your plate down with about twice what you should eat. Exercise, if nothing else take a walk. Swimming is great for weight loss, and it tones your entire body all at once. And one of the hardest things, step away from the keyboard, limit your online and computer time. SubjectProphet
Ah, get into a challenge. Heheheheh..... Military training camps. You can join, finish, and say it isn't for you. You don't HAVE to join a military branch after camp. At least, that's how it goes in America, not sure about anywhere else. You should be into great shape after that. Or if you need an easier thing, just run every morning, weights after lunch, and another run during the night. After that, head for the gym on weekends, when you have nothing to do. Minimize the gaming to around 3 or 4 hours a day.
TheCalliton
eat three full balanced meals, home cooked, prepared well. Sometimes eating more and healthier can help lose weight, your body will be more efficient. and start slow. try taking a walk around the block every day for a week, then a powerwalk, then a jog, so on untill you feel fit enough to do a full blown workout at a gymthen take a martial arts class

MalachiDelacot
Jeez...I'm not going to read everybody's advise since we all have some. Because of a ruptured inner ear, I have a balance problem and cannot do a lot of exercise, etc. Few years ago, I plumped up to about 220. Started eating more salads and in about 4 months, was down to 170. If salads hasn't been suggested already, you might go that route. Lots of different dressings and types of lettuce and cheeses, so there is some verity

kingtitan
Just wanted to add my two cents in here as well, I'm glad you are motivated to lose the weight! First off, bben has a lot of great advice, some of which I want to reiterate and some other advice that I've learned over the years as well. To start, I'm probably not much older than you so I can relate as far as having to do school work and such (I'm majoring in Accounting and MIS in college at the moment so I certainly understand being busy with school work). This certainly cramps parceling out time to legitimately get out there and exercise; but if you are goal oriented like me then I don't think this will be an issue! Like I said, building off of bben here is my advice:-Don't mess around with diets. Think of them as a "get rich quick scheme": for the guys that come up with them it is literally a get rich quick scheme; consequently the bimbos that listen to them generally don't want to put in actual effort to lose weight, they simply want a "quick fix". These kinds of people don't have a good concept of living a healthy lifestyle either! -Drink water and cut out sodas COMPLETELY!! It amazes me how many people don't realize the potential water has for helping them to lose weight. This is for a multitude of reasons. Water is a natural filler which means that when consumed in reasonable quantities, your body needs less solid sustenance (solid food). Water is also a natural "flusher" for your body; it helps get rid of toxins that are usually stored up in your body without it. Without being too specific, that's the whole reason for the difference in color when you use the restroom, the clearer you are, the more naturally your body is able to work. On the other hand, it also amazes me how people don't realize how unhealthy sodas are in general! Most sodas are pumped full of sugar and other ingredients that do two things: Make you feel less full than you are and increase toxins in your body. Just think of water and sodas as polar opposites, and remember water can make a huge difference! -Personally, i wouldn't mess with a gym. A couple reasons for this:I have been a soccer player all of my life and fortunately have managed to be able to keep my metabolism reasonably high. I find it much more constructive to run (in my case) outdoors. Most don't realize that running outdoors is more beneficial to you than using a treadmill! While you are trying to lose weight begin with walking and progressively moving up to running or jogging. Gym memberships are most beneficial when you are attempting to get toned, most of the additional exercises can be done on your own (crunches, pushups, ect). Finally, losing weight is all about successfully balancing a healthy diet (not frequenting fast foods for instance) and regular exercise. You can have one or the other, but without both you are probably not going to see much in the way of results. Try eating fruits, and if you are not a "fruit person" try out new fruits! One of the beautiful things about God's green earth is that we have so much variety in fruit you are bound to find something that you enjoy! And NEVER cut out meals! One of my buddies that I play soccer with has started his own personal diet where he eats 5 small "meals" a day that are well balanced and keep his body "full" throughout the day. He has had a LOT of success with his plan, maybe you could give that a shot too! Just remember, you have to be goal oriented and motivated to make a change. Find a way to enjoy your exercise times (I always listen to my music when I run, helps me focus) and you will find that your motivation level will slowly increase as you keep going. Anyway, sorry for the rather lengthy post but I thought that I could share what I know on the subject :)
