DividedSpleen23
Right well, went around the process of re-installing Fallout 3 on my new rig and then subsequently adding all the mods I wanted to use. Namely, Fallout Wanderer's Edition (FWE), Mart's Mutant Mod (MMM), NMC's Texture Pack, and then the Underground Hideout. Now, the Hideout probably isn't a problem so I won't touch on that any longer. First, the issues: Nothing totally game breaking, but it certainly breaks the immersion to see Power Armor Clad Outcast who are supposed to be intimidating with armor whose textures are spazzing all sorts of colors. Same thing goes for some of the weapon models, the specific ones I remember are the .44 Magnum, the M-1 Garand, and at least two of the energy weapons, whose names I do not know. Armors include some of the Power Armors, and any Mrk II type Combat Armors. The Pip Boy also has a lot of "File Not Found" type images for weapons, but that I can live with. I can just take the weapon out if I wanted to look at it. Okay, on to installation, which is where I think the root of the problem started. Installation with the new Nexus Mod Manger went easily enough, I set everything on the Nexus Page to download through the Manager. Now, I had installed all these before on my old machine and everything worked fine, no texture issues and only the occasional crash (which was probably due to hardware rather than the mods, moving on...). That was also with MMM and FWE. Now, browsing through the Fallout3 Nexus, FOOK2 caught my eye, I had seen it before but never really chose to bother with it. So I set it up to install along with MMM and FWE. I have since then learned that FOOK2 and FWE are incomparable. I've removed all the FOOK2 mod files and uninstalled that particular mod. I did have both FWE and FOOK2 running at the same time though, so I dunno if that could have screwed anything up. So there's potential problem point of origin 1. The problem also may have come from my attempt top install NMC's Texture pack, which I chose to do through the Mod Manager.Problem with that was I didn't notice that the "Download With Manager" link on the mod's page sets only Part 2 of the 5 part mod package to install. So, while attempting to activate it using the Mod Manager, the Mod Manager froze up and crashed. I don't remember the exact nature of the error message it read, but it was pretty much "We encountered a problem and need to close." Now, even though this mod was initially installed incorrectly and caused a crash, I don't think it would cause the texture issues on the armors and weapons, and its more a re texture of the environment. Still, I mention it as it DOES deal with textures, so there it is. Also, just another bit of info, I did go ahead and install the FOIP for MMM and FWE as well. I have tried reninstalling mods and as far as I know the usual fixes, in addition to using Google to observe the writing of ancient internet posters (all the way from 2009!). So, not much in the way of an actual question, just a problem. I hope there's enough information for you all to use, and if any more is needed, I'll be sure to provide. :D Thanks in advance! ~Spleeny
prensa
DividedSpleen23 - Hello! The weapons & armor changing color sounds very much like an archive invalidation issue. Have you taken care of archive invalidation? If not the new mod added textures won't show up properly, either download & activate: ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944 Or, if you use FOMM click on Toggle Invalidation on the right. For "New" FOMM you have to go to the buttons at the top & select: Tools - Archive Invalidation DON'T USE BOTH METHODS TOGETHER. Note FOMM's version often needs to be toggled off & then back on again when you add in a new mod. I think NMM also has an archive invalidation tool too. Hope this helps! DividedSpleen23
prensa- Yeah, I'm using the Nexus Mod Manager, not FOMM, and I DO have archive invalidated on. Sorry I forgot to mention that, its just the basic thing I always turn on after installing stuff, you know? :P Which reminds me, when installing FWE, I would get an error message from the NMM saying that archive invalidated wasn't activated, even when it WAS. I'll go ahead and try toggling it off and on and restarting Fallout3, and if that doesn't work I'll give the link a go as well.
M48A5
The Nexus Mod Manager is still in Beta testing and still has bugs to be worked out. FOMM works better with FO3. You should uninstall and delete NMM and install FOMM and use that with FO3. You did not mention whether or not you had FOSE, This is a requirement for FWE. It can be optained here: http://fose.silverlock.org/ This should take care of you problems.
DividedSpleen23
Yes, I do have FOSE (sorry, just another thing that slipped my mind). I'll go ahead and install the FOMM to see if that fixes anything up. Messing around with the archive invalidation with the NMM hasn't fixed anything. DividedSpleen23
Alright, I uninstalled the Nexus Mod Manager, installed the Fallout Mod Manager, and went ahead and uninstalled FWE and MMM, then reinstalled them using the FOMM. No dice, still some messed up texture issues. I think it may have to do with my messing up the installs while using the Nexus Mod Manager, and the fact that the mods I did uninstall didn't uninstall correctly as well. Reason being that when I set the same mods to re-install through FOMM, it came up with a bunch of "Do you wish to overwrite files?" messages. So I guess the uninstallation didn't remove everything. So I guess one other option is a complete manual removal of all the FWE and MMM mod files? Is there a good way to go about this or what?
Tamujiin
let it overwrite everything..... it would fix the issue.
prensa
DividedSpleen23 - Hello! If you installed with FOMM & it overwrote old files it should still work fine, any old files will simply be replaced by the ones FOMM is putting in. "still some messed up texture issues" Are the textures changing to match things around them? Rather like chameleons? If so, it still sounds like archive invalidation. With the built in ones (FOMM & NMM) just having it on is not always enough. You often need, when installing a fresh mod, to turn off archive invalidation & then turn it back on in order for it to take effect. If that still does not fix the issue, are you using Vista or Win7? If so go to your: Fallout 3 - Data & make sure none of the files/folders have padlocks on them. If they do have little padlocks on them move the affected files/folders onto the desktop & then back again EXACTLY where they came from. The padlock symbols should disappear allowing the files to work porperly. Check through the Meshes & Texture folders & do the same for any of the files & folders in there that have the padlock symbol. Check your .ini has the setting: binvalidateolderfiles=1 if it's set to 0 then change it to 1 has shown above. The .ini you want to change is in: For XP: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 For Vista & Win7: Documents\My Games\Fallout3 The file you want will be called: FALLOUT.ini Open the .ini with Notepad. If that still does not help, turn off archive invalidation in FOMM & use ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated instead: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944 Just download it & Activate it. Hope this helps! Prensa
BlackRampage
I suspect this doesn't really has anything to do with Archive invalidation at all actually, but with how FWE's files need to be extracted upon install. Have a look at this thread to find your answer: Link
DividedSpleen23
prensa: I am running Windows 7, went through the files looking for a padlock symbol like you said...couldn't find anything however. I'm gonna go ahead and try to reinstall FWE with Archive Invalidation turned off using the method BlackRampage suggested, as well as the link you provided if needed. EDIT: Also, yes, the textures are like chameleons, weapons I use try to match the texture of what armor I'm wearing, and the armor textures of some of the NPCs are funky as well in the same, flickering spazzy way. EDIT 2: ALRIGHT! No more flickering textures! At least not on the armors that were doing it before, same for some of the energy weps. I went ahead and deactivated Archive Invalidation in the FOMM and then used the link provided by BlackRampage on how to properly extract and install FWE. So I think everything is good now! Thanks guys! Edited April 15, 2012 by DividedSpleen23
