ePrinn
I absolutely don't care at all about TES lore in any other aspect, and don't remember any names or histories that were told to me more than 6 hours ago, but this one annoys me for some reason. It's so petty and autistic of me but I'm gonna complain anyway. So Forsworn are basically displaced pagans, right? They have antler helms and say they have connection to the land, do human sacrifices and such. They revere the Hagravens and worship the old gods/daedra. This is all fine and consistently pagan more or less, at least according to folk tales and stuff. Hagravens are ancient witch beings, part birdy, lead covens of angry women, like to do creepy magic and kill people and eat them or whatever. This is pretty cool. Also they gave the briar heart magic to the Forsworn. All of this makes folkloric sense too. Except they... hate nature for some reason? They created Nettlebane, and murder spriggans, and their loathing of all nature is mentioned a bunch of times by NPCs and books. Except they uh, made briar heart magic? Also they are part bird? Witches were always supposed to be scary because they drew their power from nature, which is dark and scary and murderous. Their major motivation being DESTROY NATURE seems so... weirdly random. Mostly I think it's weird that Forsworn revere a creature that hates their own land, and hunts down spriggans, who are literally made of that land. (I know that the real reason is "writers of TES didn't have a whole lot of communication with each other, and the project leadership was all over the place" but y'know.) Nowhere does it say they love nature, they just want the land that they claimed as their own back. I could go further but you can easily go read the UESP and Wiki pages yourself. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Forswornhttp://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hagravenhttp://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Forswornhttp://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Hagraven_(Skyrim) (I know that the real reason is "writers of TES didn't have a whole lot of communication with each other, and the project leadership was all over the place" but y'know.)that's not true... but not the topic of the thread so whatever
Tragthemercenary
I just want to mention one thing. "Nature" has a warm and fuzzy feeling to it, doesn't it? At least, the word does. But nature is anything but kind. Many years ago, when my spotter and I went into the jungle ...yes, it was Vietnam ... one of the biggest threats we faced was nature, itself. The enemy was bad enough, but in the several months I was there, besides facing the enemy, I developed severe allergies to the stings of insects, also became allergic to certain plants. If that wasn't bad enough, I was bit by a cobra (luckily, people with my MOS regularly carried antivenon with us, and that saved my life). It doesn't matter if someone or something "loves and worships" nature. Nature will kill you just as quickly as any creature. The Hagravens may use nature, but that doesn't mean that everything that is "natural" will love them. Of course they kill Spriggans. If they don't, the Spriggans will kill them. Knowing this, if I had the bad luck to be a Hagraven, I would "murder" a Spriggan before it had the chance to murder me. That's the way of nature ... kill or be killed. I think that the developers of the game realized this ... perhaps, instinctively ... and added it to the game.
