I have an Xbox Elite controller that I like to use with Skyrim and Fallout 4. My controller no longer works with Fallout 4 and it's only with Fallout 4. It works fine with Skyrim. I looked around on the web and other people have been having this problem but they all lead to dead ends with no answers. Any suggestions?

Things I'd check:

1. Does Windows see it as an available device? (Probably, given Skyrim).

2. In your game controller options: What is set as the primary game controller for older games to use (the Internet will help you here, as it's a carry over from Windows 98 days (Windows 7 has this option, too)). This setting may help.

3. Do you have any game profile software installed (great for mapping keyboard keys to a controller)? If yes, this can get you to the setting mentioned in #2 and might trick Fallout 4 into using the controller.

4. How has Fallout 4 been set up, as usually for PC you're in mouse and keyboard territory (yes this can be altered, but that will vary by the game).

I will say Logitech has some good profiler software, but it's tied to Logitech products. There may be some generics out there, but I haven't hunted any down.

Hope this helps.

Silly question maybe, but is the use of a controller turned on in the game's settings menu?

Are you on a non-USA language/keyboard setting for your PC?

Also check this recent topic about the same matter.

Oh my gah... Such a simple solution. This fixed my problem. The base game started with it on but I guess it got switched off somehow when I started modding. I didn't even know this was an option. Thanks.
