BGatot
I'm a longtime New Vegas player, have played NV with tons of awesome mods, even created a few myself. That was when I was using Windows XP. But ever since I upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 many, many moons ago, I've never got NV to run again on my new system. It just crashed to desktop after the copyright screen ("Fallout New Vegas ® Bethesda Corp, yada yada yada..."). I've tried all the common suggestions found on the internet, like running in compatibility mode, as administrator, disabling intro screen, download an alternate d3dx9.dll, modding the .ini files, and so on. Nothing has worked so far. If there's a solution, I bet folks here who lives and breathes Fallout universe has got to be the one that has it. Or at least I'm hoping it is so! My computer should meet and exceed the system requirement as my old 'puter can run New Vegas with tons of mods with no problems at all, and this one is an upgrade of that. It's a Core2 Duo E7300 (2.66mhz) with Nvidia 9800 GT graphic card. BTW the New Vegas is a fresh install with no mods whatsoever, and still it won't run. BTW the Fallout 3 don't work either, with the same kind of problem. No error messages at all except "FalloutNV.exe has stopped working" message. BTW my computer runs many other newer games with no problems at all, including Skyrim (which uses a derivative of Fallout engine, right? Even the console command is a lot alike) Basically there doesn't seem to be any reason why FalloutNV won't work in my computer yet it didn't. Craigsters
You need a steam account and have to be signed into steam, but you can play offline, also make sure to have the latest directX and you might need a codec update and make sure your PC is up to date with Windows Update, I run a [specs] Dell Inspiron N7110 MS Windows 7 home premium 64bit SP1 Inel Core i5-2410M @2.30GHz, 6.0GB, Intel HD Graghics Family, video card NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M and the game plays great!.. Remember also to use FOMM to manage any mods and that some mods require script extender and you'll need ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated too!.. BGatot
At this point I'm not even trying out mods just yet. I think the base game had to run well first before that! So no FOMM just yet. I've tried updating the codec and directx says I'm up to date, but it still crashed after the copyright screen.
Fonger
what directory did you install this game into Hint -> expecting a simple UAC issue because you updated from XP to Win7
BGatot
what directory did you install this game into Hint -> expecting a simple UAC issue because you updated from XP to Win7 I always put my games in my d:\GAMES directory for easy locating. BTW the Windows 7 was a fresh install (not upgrade from a Windows XP install). And I think I've turned UAC off in my Windows 7. Fonger
did you nuke your game saves folder during the OS change over --- possible that remnant ini files are causing your issues however you didn't actually answer the previous question

BGatot
I'm beginning to lose hope here folks. It seems like there's nothing that I have not done that could possibly make FNV work in my computer. Is it possible that it just somehow simply won't work in a particular computer setting, Windows installation, whatever? What's so different about my computer's current state compared to others that have successfully run FNV with Windows 7? Why only this particular software that refused to work? Please read the instructions for how to start a help topic post. I am an idiot, so I cannot help you in this, but I do know that you'll need to provide more information than what you've posted so far. Without seeing what your setup is, and how the program's files have been installed, no one can really give you much in the way of detailed help. Great good luck, and know that lots of us have gone through the same frustrations concerning why our setup isn't working correctly.
Qualanqui
Do you have all three copies of the .ini the fallout_default.ini in your game directory then fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini in Documents\My Games\FalloutNV? Also have you tried starting your game from the launcher (falloutlauncher.exe) in your game directory? And if I remember correctly there is a NVidia bug try googling it and maybe updating your video driver, you could also try taking your game directory away from the root and maybe put it in Documents maybe that's about all I can think of right now maybe you could also check if FalloutNV.ESM is present in your data folder even if you aren't running any mods this is still important
