varkonasnorse
I am beginning to get weary of fighting this game on a daily basis. I am running the 32 bit original game. Today Steam did some sort of automatic update to my game and of course now it doesn't work correctly. The game crashes every time I try to fast travel or use any kind of door. So, pretty much any interaction between cells makes it crash. I went on Steam and verified files. It supposedly updated six files and re-installed them. This did not solve the problem. I am wondering if Steam changed any of the config files for the game with the so-called 'update'. Seems like any time Steam, or Microsoft for that matter, do any kind of an update, something no longer works. More like a 'downdate'. Any ideas?
Jannifer
Steam updates don't mess with your game files. Verification was the right place to start. Start the game from the vanilla launcher (the one you used when you first installed the game). That will rebuild the .ini files. If you've made edits to those files, put a copy of them somewhere safe, then move them back after the new ones have been created. I would also strongly suggest starting a new game, as much of a pain as that will be. If a new game starts and runs fine, then the problem is going to be somewhere in the mods you're using. Some mods -- like SKSE or Dual Sheath Redux -- require specific game versions to work, so check to see if you need to update any of your mods. I hope you get things working again. :)
varkonasnorse
Ya, I know what you are suggesting, but the mods are not the problem. Game has been running smoothly for a couple of months now, until this morning right after the Steam update. Now I got problems. Somehow I think Steam is the problem, because it did downloading and installing, but I don't know what. I am level 86. There ain't no way no how I'm gonna start a new game. Update: Further testing leads me to believe that my Skyrim.exe file may be corrupt. The game crashes on every kind of save in the game including manual saves. I can move all over as long as I don't try to save it. Can't be havin' that can I? So the only thing I can do if I want to play this ...ahem...game, is to start over with a new game download. I think I'll just find another game to play. varkonasnorse
Nope, nope, nope...hold the phone! Would you believe a video issue? In step-by-step checking I discovered that my Skyrim launcher was set to ultra high video. It's a mystery how it got that way though. I never run the game in anything higher than medium resolution. What I don't understand is why the game crashed only when saving. Running out of RAM maybe? Anyhow, it works just fine now; like nothing ever happened. Go figure.
7531Leonidas
I have the same problem, but I have a Fury X card and have been running on the ultra setting at 2560x1600 for many hours. When saving, I only get a single *.ess.tmp 0 kb file, and no .skse cosave. Loaded earlier save and another CTD upon trying to save it. I also tried re-installing skse64 and verified the game files, cleaning them w/SSEEdit. This is a real pain. Lvl 91, 800+ saves, only the last two manual saves kept in the savegame folder after every game session. I have the skse logs, but need help on posting them. The skse.log does show a save, #896, that I had deleted after the first crash. The loader and steam loader logs look ok to me, but I don't know enough to notice much. skse64_loader log: skse64 loader 02000060 01D3C32B3DDCD696 6.1 (7601)config path = C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\skse.iniprocPath = C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\\SkyrimSE.exelaunching: SkyrimSE.exe (C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\\SkyrimSE.exe)dwSignature = FEEF04BDdwStrucVersion = 00010000dwFileVersionMS = 00010000dwFileVersionLS = 00000000dwProductVersionMS = 00010000dwProductVersionLS = 00000000dwFileFlagsMask = 00000017dwFileFlags = 00000000dwFileOS = 00000004dwFileType = 00000001dwFileSubtype = 00000000dwFileDateMS = 00000000dwFileDateLS = 00000000productVersionStr = 1.5.23.0version = 0001000500170000product name = TESV: Skyrimsteam exedll = C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\\skse64_1_5_23.dllmain thread id = 516hookBase = 0000000000060000loadLibraryAAddr = 00000000770E6510hook thread completelaunching steam loader log: skse64 loader 02000060 (steam) 01D3C32B3DDF95C1 6.1 (7601)loader base addr = 000007FEFB160000exe base addr = 000000013FFA0000found iat at 00000001414C2898original thunk 000007FEFB9D1000patched iatHookMain: thread = 516 retaddr = 0000000141301DE9runtimePath = C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\SkyrimSE.exedwSignature = FEEF04BDdwStrucVersion = 00010000dwFileVersionMS = 00010000dwFileVersionLS = 00000000dwProductVersionMS = 00010000dwProductVersionLS = 00000000dwFileFlagsMask = 00000017dwFileFlags = 00000000dwFileOS = 00000004dwFileType = 00000001dwFileSubtype = 00000000dwFileDateMS = 00000000dwFileDateLS = 00000000productVersionStr = 1.5.23.0version = 0001000500170000product name = TESV: Skyrimsteam exedll = C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\\skse64_1_5_23.dll Edited March 24, 2018 by 7531Leonidas
Deleted21550714User
I think you have to clear your DL cache in steam, if you dl from steam workshop you would be best to seek other info on this.google "steam clear download cache" I believe this purges those updates.
