Follower Leveling

Are there any mods that properly level followers without messing with vanilla stuff too much? Better Followers will level up followers but not change their stats. BDO gives you a dialogue option to level a follower, but turns them into the Terminator, along with allowing multiple Terminators. UFO, I haven't tried but sounds like it might be a lot like BDO, straying really far from Vanilla. I don't mind extra follower options, but I'd really like to stay as close to vanilla as possible, at least in terms of balance.

I've searched all over, searching NPC category, searching the keyword Follower, searching top 100 files.. Just can't find a simple level up mod. Know of one? I will give you Kudos :D

And yes, I know you can use the console, but I really don't want to strip my follower of items, disable them, enable them, then pay them 500 gold again or jump through any other hoops (if any) to get them to follow me again, and re-equip them. Not very immersive.

dont know what kind of mod you are looking for i use Better followers with BDO because without those mods your follower dont level at all. Your follower will stick at the level you frist meet him and see him. so when you meet lydia at level lets says level 12 so wil be set too that level for the rest of the game without those mods even if you ar level 50.

BDO chance that by adding the option the ask your followers too trian here skills bassiscly it just set your followers level to yours and increases there stats too like if you have a follower that uses one hande wapens and a sheild (block) and light armor. You meet the follower at level 10 lets say the skill at that level wil be 29 for one hande 30 for block and mmmm 32 light armor. health is lets say 132 magica 50 and stamina 75. Better followers dont have the level option any more because BDO is from the same creater btw. (thats what i think btw)

you clear a dungoen with that follower and while doing so you level up 3 times so you are level 13 but without those mods your follower is stil level 10 with the same skills in those 3 skills. they wil and get indeed more powerfull when the and you reach higher level but in vanille skyrim followers are complete useles at higher levels (around 35 but thats my opinoin.)

so what kind of level up mod you had in mind that the only increase health magic and stamina or only there skills?

Yeah, I felt the same way, but in order to fix this 'problem' I had I went for an alternative route: I am now doing an NPC overhaul that makes most recurring NPCs (including all followers) have a calculated level that is independant of the player. Now followers don't level at all, and are all around level 20/25/30 with a few exceptions. I plan on releasing it soon, but I'm still testing it now. So far it works well; the followers have abilities in the same range vanilla intended them to ultimately have, and people you meet later on aren't stronger than people you meet early and who should be stronger according to lore. Keep an eye out for it on the new released mods page the coming week.

You didn't read my post at all lol. When I said that BDO turns your follower into the Terminator, I literally meant it. I am currently using Better Followers + BDO and do not like it, hence why I'm looking for a replacement. I'm looking for a mod that levels up your follower either automatically or via a mechanism, such as Dialogue, that doesn't overpower your followers at the same time. I have no doubt in my mind that my only 2 followers could solo dragons and bosses by themselves. I want a serious mod, not a mod that's borderline cheating.

@tmanthewhite

Wouldn't that mean you could theoretically travel to a distant city at level 5, pick up a follower 15 levels higher than you, then have him slaughter everything? Which would slow down your leveling resulting in a lot of just watching your follower beat the crap out of enemies lol. Or on the opposite side of the spectrum, when you're high level.. say 50+, your leveler will start being quickly killed and only be useful as a pack mule?

This is why I'm looking for a nice balanced follower mod. One that lets your follower level and/or have some enhancements.. but one that doesn't stray from ordinary Vanilla challenge.

Edit: I'm really tempted to see how different the mod program for Skyrim is from TESC or GECK and make a mod myself specifically for this. All it would take is a script on follower NPC's that occasionally checks if the player's level has increased. And if it has, make note of current standing and given items, disable the character, enable the character, set their standing and make them follow the player, then give them back the items they had, minus any hidden defaulted items. This would let them auto level while keeping their gear and not bother the player with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

--bump--

Still keeping an eye out for a decent follower mod. I plan to start a new game with Tytanis, SkyUI, Deadly Dragons, and maybe Weapons of Third Era MoS if it's compatible. A nice follower upgrade would be the final touch, assuming it doesn't overpower the follower.

I'd recommend you try the NPC editor ... The BDO will allow you to tell your followers to "meditate on what you have learned" but as you noted, this will, to all intents and purposes, turn them into a clone of you, which would probably make them OP'd to say the least and make the game ridiculously easy if you have 2 or 3 of them with you (as the BDO also permits you to have multiple follwers)

The NPC Editor allows you to set a follower (or any NPC) as Auto-Level, BUT, you can not only set a mix + max level and what level 'style' (ranger, assassin,1h, 2h, mage and so on) so that the game will choose appropriate skills/perks to level but ALSO what % of the players level this process is governed by ... Might be the best solution for you, might not ?
