Rad Racer on the NES.

j/k

I'll cast my vote for Rock 'n Roll Racing, on either 16bit console.

"Rip is in another timezone!"

And I further nominate the arcade and NES port of Super Off-Road.

Long ago on 8bit consoles there was a game "Excitebike" - the first motocross I've ever played ))

It looked like this

Funny game it was)) it reminds me of my childhood even more than "Rock'n'Roll Racing".

A real contrast with modern "MX vs. ATV" :)

Mario Kart was better IMO. But personally, FZero for the SNES was my all-time favorite retro racing game.

For straight racing, Mario Kart on all of the different consoles was great, even now. I do have fond memories of playing Diddy Kong Racing as a kid though. It had a great mix of adventure and racing. Still, you are right. It was definitely fun when you had 4 people for both, especially on the N64.

Oh i forgot one very rare and most impressive racing game Ive ever come across back in the early 90's, and it was for the Amiga cd32bit. It was in full 3d for its time witch was the most realistic looking game ever for its time.

A friend of mine showed me this game when the amiga32 was in its hey day and i was very impressed, this was the game that made me get one  .

came out in 1994

it was the first real 3d game that i have seen back them.
