commissarmike
Hi folks! I just recently came over to the SSE play side of things and enjoying it thus far. Sadly I found a couple of mods (literally 2) that seem like they would be "simple" conversions but the original author seems to not have touched them in years. I tried to contact on Steam (where I originally found the mods and where they still are for "oldrim" as they are not on the Nexus) but to no avail as of yet. So here is the set of questions! I know that obviously you are not allowed to convert or change someone's original work and post it to the nexus or another modding sight. That is pretty despicable to be honest and I get it. Taking someone else's hard work and using it in such a way without permission. BUT I also am reading (and please correct me if I am wrong) that converting a mod for your own use is perfectly fine. You aren't getting fame from it or pushing it off as your own, you are simply findinga way to breathe new life into old. So here is my conundrum... I have 2 mods. One is a standalone follower without custom voices or behaviors, it is simply looks and one that I think (I could be wrong as I am not a modder) is fairly simple. I would very much like to use them in my brand new game of SSE I am about to start. The catch is I have no modding experience. I have read some of the tutorials and pages people listed for this but frankly I am afraid I will screw it up. I did not fully get it. So is it allowed to ask someone else who is a kind soul to do the conversion for me if I promise not to distribute them, claim them as my own etc? Assuming that is allowed would anyone be willing to help an old man newbie such as myself in making this a reality? Note that replying to this post or simply answered the questions posed or even inquiring as to exactly what I want in no way makes me feel you have agreed to anything. At this stage this is a request for info primarily and help if someone feels like it AND this is not a shady thing to do. My absolute last intention is to upset the modding community if this is seen as an unscrupulous thing to do. Thanks much in advance!
katcher12
For a start knowing which 2 mods they are would be nice.
commissarmike
Absolutely! My apologies I wasn't really thinking... #1) Ella (standalone follower) - Lots of blondes in the custom follower space but I love redheads  https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=537675287 -Note: I have been using CBBE this time around so not sure if that will cause issues, but wanted to mention it. #2) Adura's Merchant Mod - Player Shops - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=116775764 Author hasn't seemed to look at it since 2013. Was still working fine for me in Oldrim as of a couple weeks ago though. -Note: This only works with the 4 vanilla homes you can buy in Skyrim pre DLC. That is perfectly fine by me I just really enjoy the mod. I don't use housecarls as companions so this gives them a job  #3) (Bonus thing I hadn't mentioned before because frankly I thought it would likely be too much of a pain for someone to do, but if it's easy and someone wants to help out I would be thrilled.)WARNING LINK NSFW!! https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12816 I would love a custom companion based on Giuditta. Really ALL I am looking for is the face though I don't need the uh...super endowed female body. I usually use CBBE slim generally speaking. I'd just love a straightforward companion with her face and the young eager fem voice. Thanks again for any info, assistance or ideas. I really do not feel confident at all using the tools ( i looked and it was over my head...sorry just not my skillset) without breaking my game. katcher12
Can't help you I'm afraid. Number 3 states you can't use any asset of that mod without the original author(Toki7)'s permission. I refuse to convert Number 1 as I cannot find the mod on Oldrim's nexus site nor do I trust downloading it from anywhere other than Nexus(and even though there appears to be nothing stating what I can and cannot do with the mods files I will not attempt converting it in case I find myself up shitcreek without a paddle). I refuse to also convert number 2 due to lack of info about what I can and cannot do plus the fact the mod hasn't been touched since 2013 and the author is outwith possible contact to even ask them in the first place. commissarmike
Hey no problem at all! I appreciate you even reading and considering it to be honest. Also I missed the author note on #3. Real bummer. It is amazing to me how great the work some of you modders do is. I can only hope you folks that want to work at game companies will be able to one day because the talent and passion is obvious!
AduroOsir
Huh...A trip down memory lane. Heya, I'm the creator of Adura's Merchant Mod. While I won't convert it to SE, you are free to do so yourself or have somebody help you with it. I've been away from modding and Skyrim long enough that touching the mod again feels weird. (Also, lost my scripts when my last computer died.) Feel free to modify it or make your own versions, just don't make public copies. :) The FAQ page has been updated to address this. Enjoy adventuring and merchant-ing!
commissarmike
Whoa thanks so much for replying!! I tried gettign a hold of you on Steam as well. As I wrote there, your mod was hands down one of my absolute favorites from the time I played the original game. I was still using it, quite successfully, up until a couple weeks ago when I switched to SE. i know my capabilities for conversion are..uh...slim. But I will see if I can find someone who would be willing! I understand about the not publicly posting bit and will of course comply if that is your wish. I wonder if there is any way to entice you to allow it to be converted for SE if someone wants to take a crack at it? There are a few people who are absolute machines when it comes to doing this. Again if it's not something you want to entertain consider it dropped, but I think the new generation needs this mod hah. Seriously. It is great. AduroOsir
Alright. Anybody can post a public copy for SE, so long as they make it clear that its an adaptation on the description. And credit me for the original version. (FAQ updated again.) Sorry I missed you on Steam, I'm not on there often nowadays. Too much going on so I can't game much. :P
commissarmike
Awesome thanks! Yes I contacted one person who does tons of conversions and she(?) always credits the original author which I would absolutely think is the way it should be. Fingers crossed all goes well. No worries on missing me on Steam. I am actually looking for a full time job these days so I have the opposite issue. Thanks again!
