Tales of Faerun

Nawen rode in the back of the group, as always. She hoped to get some sleep but it was nearly impossible. The chatter of soldiers and some other strange noises were too loud and distracting for her to take a nap.

She heard Caladus's and Rhaine's discussion about the masks. She wondered why are they talking about them in the first place. That's when it hit her: the masquerade ball in Cormyr! She forgot about it!

Her already pretty bad mood turned into worse. There was no way she could avoid the ball, well unless she'd fall off the horse and break her legs but Nawen wasn't clumsy so it is very unlikely that something like that would even happen.

The thought of wearing fancy outfit terrified her. Even if she'd be there to play the lute she still needs some fancier clothing. She never wore nor even had anything like that. They looked so uncomfortable and... strange. She remembered how Sefris calls them a circus. Well the real circus awaits them in Cormyr.

"Thankfully, yes," Rhaine replied to Sefris, putting her mask and bag away again, "It should be about a half day's ride straight to the east," she pointed along the road ahead. "Thank the gods that the storm has passed."

She looked up at the towering peaks of the Storm Horns, which were, for once, completely clear of clouds.

"Let's get going. Hyah!" the Doomguide kicked her heels into Ghost's flanks, and the stallion surged forward, hooves clattering on the cobbled road.

Aricia kicked her heels into the side of Epoch's glistening white coat, her own white outfit shining brightly. The pair, both snow white, kept up with Rhaine, Epoch's hooves clattering upon the road and Aricia's mahogany hair blowing furiously in the wind.

Xallistine kept up with Fatty, still puzzled and intrigued over the appearance of another Illithid... perhaps his kind did have a chance to change there ways after all.

Ravenna made her way back to her home, the gates of the city opening, with a loud call "Lady Everdawn has returned!" Shouted the gate guard, as Ravenna briskly made her way through, walking the streets with a superior air, citizens bowing, and moving out of her way as she passed.

Upon reaching the castle, she was greeted warmly by her husband and her sons, all embracing lovingly. For beneath it, Ravenna had a heart, despite being a beast of great evil.

She and her family then prepared for the ball, as they had all been invited... this would prove to be an interesting event...

Just as Rhaine had predicted, it was a about six hours before they reached High Horn Pass. The mountains towered on either side of them, the road bordered by cliffs. It was not long before they came across a doubled gate, pennants of the Purple Dragon Knights flapping from small towers. The gatehouse spanned from cliff to cliff, blocking traffic with two portcullises - one for travelers going east to west, the other for west to east. The Purple Dragons appeared to be checking over a caravan at one gate, headed towards Eagle Peak. But the way into Cormyr was free, and so a pair of knights trotted forth to meet up with Rhaine.

"Halt! You approach the lands of Steel Regent Alusair Obarskyr. What business brings you to Cormyr?" The knights lifted their visors as they approached...a sign that they were not hostile.

Rhaine pulled Ghost to a stop, raising her hand in greeting, "I am Rhaine Alcinea, Knight of Neverwinter and Chosen of Kelemvor. I have come to Cormyr by way of invitation from a noble family whose army is close behind me - the men of Commander Quark." She produced the invitation from her belt pouch and extended it to one of the knights.

The knight read over the parchment carefully, and then gave it back to her, "This seems legitimate. I'm assuming those behind you are to accompany you to this wedding celebration?"

The Doomguide nodded, "Yes, they are with me."

The other knight, a female, raised her voice, "All those who travel with Rhaine Alcinea, lower your hoods and open your bags for inspection."

Uh-oh, Thought Caladus. Nevertheless, he still tossed back his hood, and allowed his crimson eyes, dark skin, and silvery hair be visible, and opened his bag. "Try not to fall in, last time someone did, it took almost an hour to fish him out. He was a dwarf though.."

Saerileth opens her pack, and waits, as she wore no hood or helm it would be unnecessary to remove one.

Shaori caught up shortly after, but decided to stay in the clouds, out of the way.

Aricia had no hood, but did not open her bag for inspection, instead she sat up tall, her head raised in superiority.

Xallistine let a small chuckle... finally he had an opportunity to dominate the minds of some foolish individuals. He waved his hand at the Knights, his Psionic powers invading there minds, dominating them "You do not need to check our bags, our word is proof enough." He commanded... while some of the Knights tried to resist, it was futile, there minds were taken... he focused now on the Female knight who had commanded the inspection, slowly trying to break her mind as well.

Silently following a group that rides on horseback was not difficult, but keeping up with them was. However Ysmillr had the means and the will, so he had enough training to pull it off. The knights had wished to inspect everyone, but they could not see him. That coupled with the fact that all he had in his pockets were knives, made him decide not to reappear for this inspection. However his mind changed as he saw the other illithid, Xallistine, break the will of these two guardsmen. His psionic powers let him feel that these minds were bending dangerously close to breaking, and the 'aroma' was absolutely intoxicating.

He walked up from somewhere behind the group, and headed directly to Xallistine, with a look of maddened lust in his eyes.

Sefris also wore no hood, because let's face it. Who would want to hide this face? Her demonic features were hidden by her Alter self ability, making her look like a perfectly normal Sun elf. She opened her bag, but there was not much in it. A quil and a little bottle with ink, a few maps, lots of paper wrapped in a scroll, some clothes and a purse with her money. They fey'ri waited for someone to check her belongings, throwing an amused look at the drows, Xallistine and...wait, they have another squidhead in their circus? Oh, this is rich. She wondered how will they ever get thought the checkpoint.

Nawen became nervous. She never had to deal with such inspections. There were some settlements and towns that had guards who were inspecting everyone who entered the village but she always sneaked past them and left the place quickly. Why didn't she do this this time too? They will probably won't let her enter or maybe worse arrest her?

Sometimes she wondered why Caladus wasn't so careful in hiding his face? Sometimes he just walks around without his hood on.

The ranger slowly pulled her hood down and opened her bag for inspection. She had many herbs there. Will this be a problem with those guards?

The male knight noticed the two drow and the two illithid...he opened his mouth, but for some reason the words would not form...as if he never knew their meaning...

The female knight had just finished inspecting Rhaine's pack, quickly moving on to the others. Then, suddenly, she felt a headache creeping up on her. She couldn't concentrate long enough to properly go through their belongings. She looked up, glimpsing the drow and illithid. She glanced back to her comrade, but he seemed absolutely dumbstruck.

"What is the meaning of this?" the knight demanded, her pain increasing her anger tenfold, "Do you expect us to let drow and illithid into our lands willingly?"
