RogueNineCH
I was thinking about getting a 680 for my PC build next month, and I was wondering how the card handled Skyrim? Especially with HD texture mods and Sharpshooter's Lighting ENB mod, does the 2gb of VRAM bottleneck the game or no? Thanks in advance for your input. memlapse
I replaced my dual GTX470s with the GTX680 and was disappointed in the increase of performance. I ended up returning the card and getting a Radeon 7970. Outside of some minor driver issues, this card smoked the GTX680.

It's disappointing to hear that isn't the case.
Rennn
All the benchmarks say the 7970 is inferior to the 680 under stress. My guess is it's a compatibility issue with memlapse's PC. Edited April 24, 2012 by Rennn
memlapse
New PC. Fresh load of Win7 64 and Skyrim. I'm a system engineer and I know my business. Don't mean to sound snotty. I made a careful decision. I was poised to purchase the GTX 680 being a long time Nvidia fan, but overall the specs of the 7970 are far beyond the 680. The driver development is way behind and does not take full advantage of the card's abilities. They will catch up and the benchmarks will eventually show the 7970 the much faster card. Nvidia is a year out from releasing their next gen GPU, which from what I'm hearing will leapfrog them well past AMD, and I'll be there with credit card in hand. Rennn
It's confusing, since the benchmarks do point towards the GTX 680 for performance, but people also have contrary examples. I suppose it also depends on every other component of the computer, so some people would get better performance with a 680 than others, while some people would get better performance with a 7970. One thing I have heard is that the 680 is roughly on-par with a 7970, but that a 680 is slightly behind in normal gaming, and that a 680 will scale up its performance and power consumption under stress. Either way, my 460 can't really compete. :P Edited April 24, 2012 by Rennn
Dark0ne
I'd get Nvidia these days just for their driver support. ATi have dropped the ball since selling to AMD, and AMD are doing horribly these days.
DaisukeJP
Nvidia = pwnage @ driver support.. quality releases with minor bug amounts. ATI = average driver support & release with decent amount of bugs but they get fixed asap when reported. ATI = Performance for buck Nvidia = pricey but very nice driver support. I have 3 GTX 680's in my benchmark system & they destroy my fps counter =P I'm waiting for the HD7990's tho ^^I'm pretty sure the 680's will cry, & then nvidia will release GTX 690's or sumthin
memlapse
Guess what? After getting all defensive and snotty about my 7970 (apologies, btw), I'm on the verge of boxing it up and taking it back. It's giving me fits. when it runs, it runs like a striped-ass-ape, but I'm getting blank outs, freezes and hard lock ups. I've been tweaking the profiles.xml, rolling back drivers and CCC and I'm trading one batch of issues for another. Hold off on this card until AMD can get their poop in a group. I didn't think you were snotty anyway, but that really sucks. :(
