You seem to forgot the awesome patch with backwards flying dragons, i dont think that was caused by mods..but other then that you are right, mostly mods conflict with new patches.

Yeah that's why I said "except for one of the older patches"

Ah seems i missed it, sorry about that.

Certainly, no hard feelings.

And RedRavyn is pretty much spot on with his game analysis. Thorough and correct. Though our slight disagreement about patches and mods is a wording issue I believe. While I don't think the patches break the game(again for the most part), they certainly do break mods(and therefore the game?). I guess it's not really important whether it's the patches fault or the mods, we can just say they just don't always work well together and therefore require some caution.

Asking a stranger to predict if you will like a video game is like asking a stranger if you would like the food they are eating. Even so, you asked....I really like Skyrim, and have definitely gotten my money's worth. Here is my take:

1. Skyrim is a lot more fun if you slow down and enjoy the small things. You CAN turn it into a blood-fest, but you will miss the subtleties and and immersion, and frankly, there are better games out there for that. If I want to killkillkill, I go to a fps game.

2. Skyrim is really big. It is not perfect. If you are a perfectionist, you will either hate the game or become a great modder. (Or both?)

3. For me, one of the greatest things about Skyrim is the abilty to mold the game to your preferences through the generous sharing by modders of their talents and also your own efforts. It is insane how many mods are out there. Some will be perfect for you, some may break your game, and some may inspire you. It makes the game new and fresh.

I have NOT played any of the other Elder Scrolls, this is my first role-playing game in fact. I have always preferred fps and found most of the story elements on other games to be a boring waste of time, mostly because the situations were so forced. I think why Skyrim appeals to me is that I have a lot more choice in what I can do, when I do it, and who I do it with (npc-wise, of course, there is no co-op mode). Again, it is not perfect and you can find lots of complaints about not being able to do this or say that. I think this game invites that sort of criticism because there is so much available, it allows us to imagine even more what it might be.

I have this on my PC, from what I have read, there is less you can do with the game on other platforms. My computer has a crappy crappy video card (NVidia 9800 GT, 512 MB.) With some tweaking and some really great visual mods that are available through nexus, I have gotten it to run smoothly. There are also lots of forum threads and tutorials and web sites that can help you if you are on the low end of the requirements.

If you like playing around on your computer, learning new things, and can imagine enjoying alternating between decapitating your "enemies' and catching butterflies (that is not a metaphor) this may be for you. If you want to vent your daily frustrations by brutally destroying as many digital beings(?) as possible, I'd suggest something else.

Hope this helps!

Wait until it hits $19.95, maybe $29.95 if it comes with a DLC or something.

The mods are what make Skyrim usable and fun. Otherwise? It'd be bargain binned already.

First off, I'm an Elder Scrolls fan AND I like role playing games. I really enjoyed Morrowind and still play modded Oblivion.

Get it for sure if you have a PC; modders will ensure that your investments in time and money are returned many times over, no matter what style of game play you like. Skyrim is an awesome base for mods and I foresee a lot of epic updates/overhauls for this game.

Console? I'm not so sure. I don't think vanilla Skyrim was worth the money I paid. It was hyped as a role playing game, but it isn't. There is a wondrous world to explore and a good "feel" to the game when new to it. But you will soon find out that it is an action game, a gilded hack-and-slash epic. If that sounds good to you, go for it; there are lots of ways to build and equip characters and to implement your will over the many factions and denizens of Skyrim. If you are looking for interaction and depth of story, I might pass on this one.

I tried many times to make Skyrim into the "role playing" game it was advertised to be, without success. I recently gave up on the RPG aspect and have been running around an awe inspiring landscape killing anything that moves with as much malice and evil forethought as I can muster and afford. It sorta works.

And, stop reading any other forum threads right now! There are many innocent "hints" which will break what little mystery there is in creating/building viable characters.

I walked over a hill near Iverstead as the early morning sun was shining through a stand of golden leaved trees and reflecting off a flowing stream. It literally looked like a photograph of some mythic, idyllic forest setting and I was struck for a moment. That's happened to me more than a few times while wandering around Skyrim. If only the writing matched (some of) the scenery. Ah well, there's a modder out there right now working on just that issue and all I have to say to her is, "Don't rush it."

Skyrim as an RPG: 3 of 10. Skyrim as an action game: 7 of 10.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I hope it is better then Oblivion, although that was a great game, I found it extremely repetitive. I realize it would probably be better off to buy it for PC, however my PC is unfortunately too slow, so I'll be buying it for XBOX. I do however have one last question, please tell me there are more armor and weapon selections! However I thank you all once again for all the descriptive input!

I skipped Oblivion but I think there are far less weapons/armor than Morrowind. Though I may be wrong I can't really remember vanilla Morrowind. There's still a good selection though. I can't get over the fact that there is no "legs" slot. This really bothers me, I'm not sure how Oblivion was but I miss equipping chest and leg armor separately. Miss the throwing weapons as well.

I have so many mods now that add weapons and armor to the leveled lists and have no idea which are vanilla and which aren't. If I remember from my first play-through there was a decent variety.
