phillipjohnmc Posted April 20, 2018 Author Share Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) it occurs around combat. usually it's in the middle of a large combat scene, with lots of npcs. i can understand that. but the last time it happened just as i walked up to a hostile npc, and there was only one other npc in the vicinity. although i did have 3 followers with me (that might be a clue). and it has happened when i've completed a combat scene, like right at the end. so i can see that it's just too many npcs. most of the time, i DON'T have a freeze. it was sort of now and again, but the last time was right at the start of combat. so i thought, hmm, this seems to be getting bad, maybe i've got conflicting mods. kind of a dumb question, but how do i know exactly what mods use scripts? anything that causes more than a texture replacement? i think AFT and CH use scripts, but what about OBIS? or More Bandit Camps. is there a way to go through the mods and tell if they use scripts? sometimes mod authors say in their descriptions, so i can find out like that. i'm considering a build that has no or few scripted mods, just so i can finally do away with ctds and freezing Edited April 20, 2018 by phillipjohnmc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
3aq Posted April 20, 2018 Share Posted April 20, 2018 on the category column there is a contain scripts category, click it and it'll show you all the mods you have which includes scripts. as for an easier way to know if it has scripts or not: if your mods require the MCM or SkyUI to function it more than likely involves scripts. jones177 Posted April 23, 2018 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Hi You have WARZONES in your loadlist. It alone can cause this. At some point in modding this game & LE you have to decide if you want pretty meshes or lots of NPCs. My game is about large battles so any mod that adds meshes to areas that large battles occur have to go. My game is basically vanilla when it comes to terrain meshes. I only use JK's Skyrim mod. To make the game look good I use Reshade/ENB & high resolution. In tests that I have done with my game in combat, if frame rate goes into the 30s there is a 50% chance that the game will CTD(freeze on Win 10). If it goes into the 20s there is a 95% chance of a CTD/freeze In these battles.On the 4 core 8 thread CPUs I have tested 24% usage is best for frame rate. over that & you start to lose frame rate. In large battles safe CPU usage is into the 50s. At 95% usage my frame rate was 5fps. With all that CPU usage in battles comes heat & that can cause a freezes if your CPU throttles. In none combat situations heat throttling only causes frame rate lose. My cooling solution(Noctua NH-D15) is for large battles in SE/LE & Fallout 4 not overclocking. For me the biggest cause of freezing in & out of combat since 2016 as been multicore enhancement set to default on ASUS Z170 to Z370 motherboards. Only my modded Bethesda games are effected. I have never had scripts cause freezes. But all the script testing I have done was on Windows 7. I do know that at framerates in the 30s cause scripts to lag in my game & is one of the reasons that once my framerate gets into the 30s it is so hard to recover. On Win 7 the kill moves on the player was the number one cause of CTDs(not freezes) in heavy combat in my game. I use a mod that allows the player to go into bleed out to avoid the kill move 90% of the time. Later Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The scenario for kill move CTDs was when I was fighting an opponent & another comes in from behind & does a killmove on me. It may be that it interfered with my kill move on my opponent.
