Middle Earth online

you bet I've heard of MEO(Middle Earth Online)it's looking to be real good! Due out some time in October,04, unless they delay it. I'm really looking forward to it but it looks like it won't be as canon as MEmod will be, for instance there will be necromancers and sorcerors as availible classes, it seems there will be a descent amount of magic and I was under the impression that Middle Earth had no real magic users(other than the wizards of course)and the only necromancer in ME that I know about was Sauron. Imagine a thousand Necros runnin around.

anyway I'm sure they'll balance that out, in the meantime I'll play MEMod and read some Middle Earth books.

You're right, it doesn't have any real "magic." You'd have to ask Daerk or one of the DEVs to be sure, though.

To tell the truth:

MEO is a load of uncanocal bullshit...

Will the average person able to cast a fire pillar around themself... Tolkiens world had "magic" with in most cases was just refined and practiced arts done to a degree that mortals would find it "magical". Not a level one noob going to the local tavern to pick up his first set of spells.... <_<

BTW: This belongs in the OT area.

1. Middle-Earth Online sucks.

2. There are no real "magic" users in Arda, especially not how they've implemented magic in MEO. Hobbits casting fireballs my arse.

3. If the "If wishes were horses" mod has realistically shaped horse models that are physiqued to seamlessly animate, with high resolution texture mapping, we may use their horse mesh as just ONE of the breeds of horses in Middle-Earth. Otherwise we'll stick to our own models. Note that these horses are NOT mountable.

That's what I figured, I'm not even sure if I'll try it or not now, the graphics are real pretty thats probably the best thing about it; another thing that really made me mad about it is that there will only be a small peace of Middle Earth availible at start, so maybe in 2 or 3 years I'll be able to venture to Mordor or Minas Tirith;

by then there could be some great xpacs for MEmod. I believe Turbine is just trying to make a fun game so they can sell it, not caring how far from Tolkien they take it I guess.

While I think the MEO development team is making "traditional" sacrafices to Tolkien's work to help make their product more marketable, I definately commend their efforts.

As one whose waited for an online MMORPG dedicated to Middle Earth for almost 8 years ( I remember reading about the Sierra project back in 1997 ) I anxiously await their interpretation of Middle Earth.

Sheesh. I remember when going to www.middleearth.com actually took you to a website.

I think we, as fans of Middle Earth, should at least keep an open mind in regards to MEO. At least until we see a BETA.

I mean seriously.

Unless someone comes up with an AI scheme that makes all NPC seem "real", a MMORPG is still going to be the most immersive ME experience we're going to get on the computer for years.

Sure, MEMod and the other project in development will be great if we want to traverse Middle Earth, explore Middle Earth and see Middle Earth. But if we all wish to "live" Middle Earth I think it's going to require a contiually developing interactive project like MEO.

Can someone post a recent link to an article or movie that actually shows a hobbit casting a spell? Preferrably something that wasn't shown at last years E3 (which I attended). It's been clarified by the development team that the early E3 demo was designed solely to show the engine and what could be done with it.
