Vortex installation?

Just adding my tuppence worth.

I hit all sorts of problems importing my mods from NMM, probably because I didn't really understand what I was doing.

As I only wanted about 15-20 mods, in the end I just uninstalled NMM and downloaded the mods from Nexus rather than import from NMM.

Okay, I can't find any way to post something new, and can't find what I'm looking for, so this looks like the most likely place. I was using NMM to try to install mods to my Skyrim SE. First off, I don't know how this happened, but all of my mod files got put into the main screen as unknowns. I copied all the mods to another folder so I could clear that out and tried to install by file, and ran into all kinds of problems. Found that NMM was no longer being supported, so I downloaded and installed Vortex. Vortex wanted to install to my C: drive, but I don't allow any game related programs there. So I installed it to my J: drive (1 TB SSD) and tried to use it. Now I'm getting messages like 'Mods can't be deployed' and 'No Deployment Method." And there is no readme or help file with this thing to tell me what I am doing wrong. So, what am I doing wrong? It seems to me that the programs put out by the Nexus are the most user unfriendly possible, and then they don't give you the information to correct them. I really wanted to play this game, but not in the configuration that Bethesda put it out in. Maybe I just have to use Wry Bash and forget about this so called 'Easy' method released by the Nexus.
