Dubnoman
Alright, I need a HDD sweeper. Use it after I uninstall, correct? Anyone have a recommendation for one? Is CCleaner one? Edited May 2, 2012 by Dubnoman
thompsonar
If you have NMM I would deactivate/delete the mods with that first, then uninstall, then delete the folder. NMM is good about removing the files when you deactivate the mod but you never know, there could be one or two leftovers. As for a good HDD sweeper, I'm not sure. I always just search the freeware on download.com and read the reviews. And yes you would run that after everything has been removed. This is also a good time to do a registry scan/fix/defrag and defrag the HDD plus any other general computer maintenance/cleanup you'd like to do. shuriken88
Check this site:-http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/loadorder.html Technically its for Oblivion mod manager, but really the same general rules apply. There probably aren't really any differences between the way Oblivion & Skyrim handles load orders (since they use the same engine, just slightly updated). If I was you, I'd also stay WELL away from BOSS. I tried that program on the recommendation of some guy on the BOSS page, and after applying it, my whole game was COMPLETELY F*CKED UP. I had landscape stretched all over the place, textures missing, AI not working, floating objects, CTD's. The only thing that fixed it was reinstalling the game, then re-ordering ALL 120ish mods, by hand. If you dont want to feel like ripping your hair out, then going to prison for mass murder and terrorist bombings, then dont use BOSS!! fms1
I've used BOSS for years, and never had a problem with it, running 143 mods on Oblivion, and about 50 on Skyrim. Yes I've messed my games up a few times, but like I said I messed up my game, not BOSS. EDIT: And that's with Wrye Bash, with mods merged into bashed patch. Dubnoman
I appreciate the warning about BOSS, but I might give it a shot. I'll research BOSS and what exactly it is and what it does and see if I really need it.
thompsonar
I don't see why BOSS would ruin a game, all it does is change the load order. It's master lists are tested and updated very frequently to reflect the best load order for thousands of mods. If it did mess up your game all you should have to do is reorder the mods by hand and you'd be fine. Like another poster said, I've used BOSS forever and never had a single problem with it. It's the simplest program to use ever and all is does is change load order. Pretty hard for it to screw up a game.
