eric31415
If i remember correctly, i had to install both discs before running the game the first time to get it working properly. To get rid of GFWL, just install FOSE (Fallout Script Extender). There are other GFWL disablers, but you are eventually going to need FOSE for a mod, so just install it now. But run the game once before you install FOSE. The game still needs to be activated thru GFWL, but after that there is no issue in bypassing it. If this doesn't help, please provide detailed info about the issue, and your machine.
M48A5
If by nothing worked, you mean the auto play did not start the install, follow the instructions to start the install manually. Also, when you come to the screen where it asks if you want a default install or custom install, choose custom install. The program will than ask where to install the game. Type a path to a spot on your hard drive outside of the program files. If you have a problem installing the second disk, restart your computer in safe mod with networking.
