Random CTDs

Hey guys I have a serious issue on my 20 hrs no fast travel playthrough. On random occasions, but mostly in Cities like Riften and Windhelm or its peripherie, my game crashes with no error message at all.

My game is heavily modded, but I also used LOOT and SSEdit to clean every mod, LOOT markes as ITM error.

 

My setup:

 

Intel i7-6700 CPU 3,4GHz

To find the source of my crashes I tried to enable Crash logging in Skyrim.ini [Papyrus] but after the next crash no Script folder with crash logs appeared :/ So I have no idea why the game is crashing.

Can you help me.

I also had the same situation with my game. I was crashing while walking and in places where I have never had any crashes before. Reinstalled my game from scratch. Downloaded 10 mods and via console command, I displayed all places in the map. Fast travel to a lot of them and to places I was crashing before. Nothing happened. Continued downloading another set of 10 mods .... I discovered that More Bandit Camps was the cause. Out of my load order. Start it to play and crashes reappeared.

 

This time, believe or not, I reinstalled Skyrim again from scratch. Decided to go drastic in my load order. I did not install Lanterns of Skyrim ... this mod is beautiful but heavy and it was the cause of my CTD's ... in reality, I do not need light during nights because I am using SkryimSE ENB ( Color correction ) and I set my nights to be clear so I can see at night and I love the way my nights looks via Vivid Weathers.

 

To make the story short, I am not using several mods, not limited to : Lanterns, Immersive Armors ( I do not need it because I am a pure mage and my followers can use any weapon, so I do not care ), Realistic Water Two ( another beautiful mod but it does conflict with others a lot in some cells and beside I do not fight in the water so I really do not care ), Open Cities ( another mod that is problematic ), Verdant ( it is known to cause CTD's ), Immersive Citizens and Patrols ( heavy mods that also may trigger CTD's ), Enhanced Blood ( yes, I am not using this as well. For my play style - pure mage -, I do not need blood but to see burnt and disintegrated bodies and that is what I got via Fire Burn mod so I do not need this mod at all and it is heavy and must be installed correctly ), Campire, Footprint, iNeed ( out of my load order ) and others more that are probably in the vast majority of players.

 

Again, I am not trying to impose my load order to you but just telling what I did to have kind of stable game and it did cost me dozens of hours trying this and that, eliminating mods, restarting my game from scratch, etc, etc. ..... so far, my game is running stable, HOWEVER, it has been addressed in this forum that a lot of players have experimented crashes lately and we are wondering if Skyrim suffered some kind of a bug after the last update or not, because it is pretty weird what is happening.

 

I would not be surprise if I get more crashes but I won't reinstall the game again, so it is what it is and got tired already. My game is being launched via SKSE ( I do not have SkyUI ) and via Vortex. So far in about 12 hours play time on my current game, I have had 2 CTD's ... again, kind of acceptable since I know how buggy this game is and I know at the same time nothing is perfect. No matter what you do, you will have CTD's in any Bethesda game. Happy gaming !

If you have a bunch of stuff running in the background try turning them off. If you don't restart your pc much try restarting. I'm thinking Skyrim might rely more on the pagefile than ram. The pagefile sometimes doesn't get cleared correctly causing some games to crash. Restarting the pc is one way to clear it. The problem might be worse on slower drives or external drives.
