Vortex has been a joy to use.

I got Skyrim VR and was dreading modding it, as my past experience was the original where you messed with your installation files.

Someone highly recommended Vortex on Reddit and decided to give it ago even though it says alpha.

- I wanted auto-updates, so installed on C: and found it easy to configure mod folders to the drive with Skyrim.

- Signing into NexusMods was quick and easy.

- The steps of download, install, enable, deploy are straight forward.

- Being able to quickly toggle mods on and off, re-install to change patches, is fantastic.

- I like the load order being magically auto sorted.

- Being able to launch Skyrim without the modding tool is convenient.

Even though I am overwhelmed by the choice of mods, Vortex has made trying them a breeze, so I've actually spent more time playing than modding :D

Improvements:

- I would be helpful to prompt during initial install if you want Vortex to handle nexusmod links.

- The plugins section could do with an info box explaining how the sort, priority, global/local depencies, master flag, all fit together. I was looking at it, and don't understand why USSEP is always sorted last. Also the order properties pops out covering up two useful columns, and if you say lock a mod to index 09, it sorts to 08. Just a bit confusing, but haven't had much need to mess with these.

I agree, whoisrich. I'm liking Vortex a lot.

I only mod one game: Skyrim SE, and while I have nearly 200 mods, I don't really have a need to manually merge plugins and to a lot of post-mod-loading manual stuff, so I have a relatively easy-to-manage setup.

I'm sure that, as it is now, MO/2 better serves the needs of those who need to do a lot of manual management of mods, but for me, Vortex is extremely easy to use and I've been recommending it over NMM for sure.

I agree with you capella6707 .... after too many headaches ( errors from myself ), I kind of know what to do with Vortex now and on my last fresh Skyrim SE, I applied what Tannin and Grestorn suggested to me and it has been easier to handle it. I am running only 65 mods and what I did was only to set my rules in the MODS tab and let Vortex to auto-sort my PLUGINS and voila. I am not using any merge plugins or anything like it, except to clean master files via SSEEdit when I installed my game.

I still have FALLOUT4 in NMM because I was testing Vortex with SkyrimSE only ... I had to start it several times till I got to the point to feel comfortable with Vortex. Now that we are in Beta stage, I am going to start playing Fallout 4 via Vortex. NMM is gone for me and regarding MO, I do not know anything about it since I never used it.

>> I do also agree with your above suggestion. Even though Vortex is easy, it should have some information added to the MOD and PLUGIN tabs to make it even easier for new users to manage it. Extra information will never hurt !

Yup, at first there was some trial and error for me using Vortex, but it's much much easier to use than MO - which I have used in the past.
