Adras
Does anyone know of a good texturing program that will let me open any kind of picture and save it as a .NIF? I'm sure there are at least a few texturers here who might know... Please help :help:
Peregrine
Uh, since .nif is a 3d model format you'll be looking until hell freezes over....
k_fishburne
I'm not sure what you're asking but here's some general info: I would use Photoshop (6.5 or CS) along with the DDS plugin on nVIDIA's site for editing/creating/saving textures. A decent, free Photoshop plugin for making textures tileable is Seamless Workshop. Do a web search for "Redfield Plugins" and you'll find it. I recommend 3dsmax5.1 (5 w/ update) for modeling. I don't know if 6 works well with the NIF exporter/importer or DDS plugin. It's a tough program, but it has a decent help system, tutorials, and there are quite a few tutorials specifically related to 3dsmax and Morrowind available. Adras
Basically what I need to do it to create an expance (LOTS OF) ice for the Seventh tower Mod, WITHOUT having Bloodmoon loaded. The person I a working with for the mod does no have Bloodmoon (or tribunal) and I need to get some ice. I alrealy have a picture, but I'm not sure how to actually make the texture, but thanks. However, life was made easier whn I found out that Morrowind does have snow, with out Bloodmoon, so I was relieved. BACKGROUND INFO:The Seventh Tower Mod takes place in the Dark World (as you might have read in sgea02's post) and it sonws all the time, and the only thing to walk on (this is outside of the castle) is ICE. Always just ice. However, I have to do a thing like with Tribunal, which is making the 'outside' and interior, so you cant just swim there, but you have to get teleported there. Anyways, thanks for your help, and if you can think of anything else, it would be much appreciated. BTW, I have a texturing program (it starts with a Z, but I cant remember the rest of the name, since I do not have it available at the moment) but I cant figure out how to take a poicture and make it a texture. Thanks again!
k_fishburne
Do the following: 1) If the DDS plugin doesn't work with your image-editing program, there is a command line utility to batch convert files to DDS format on nVIDIA's site. Targa (TGA) files often work if you can save to that format. 2) Place the targa files in "Data Files\Textures" in the Morrowind directory. 3) In the Construction Set, press H or click World, Landscape Editing. 4) Click the Add Texture button and type a name in the ID field. 5) Click the Select Texture File button and double-click the targa/DDS file in the Textures folder. 6) Select the texture and right-click in the Render window to paint the landscape with the selected texture. Adras
 Heh, I forgot something. I cant use land textures inside, and I need ice textures for an interior thing. The mod will be kind of like Tribunal (if you have it), everything, even the 'outside' is an interior. We are going to make it so you cant just swim to the Dark World. Sorry... k_fishburne
I don't know much about replacing textures on existing models in the game, as I've only worked on a TC using no existing models. The editor doesn't let you "paint" a model, just the landscape, so you'll have to either replace textures on existing models or create new models. You might want to look up the NIF imported plugin for 3dsmax. It allows you to import MW models into 3dsmax, edit them, and you can then export the back to MW using the NIF exporter. 3dsmax is essential for serial modding as far as I'm concerned. The basics aren't that difficult with a few good tutorials.
