About body nif files

Can anyone explain to me how body nif files work in Skyrim? Is the skeleton file the one that affects appearance of armor, or does body files (femalebody_01.nif for example) affect it? For example there is skeleton.nif, skeleton.hkx, then there's skeleton_female.nif, skeleton_female.hkx, and skeleton_female_old.nif.

I'm having an issue with an armor:

Back in Oblivion this would be a skeleton issue, causing the mesh to stretch to infinity. But I've tried pretty much all the skeleton files already, BBP and non-BBP, none of them fixes this issue. This armor did display correctly at one point but I have no idea why it doesn't display correctly now.

Thanks for any help.

You need the skeleton meshes found in this mod friend. I assume you read the requirements for BBB prior to installation?

Also, just to provide some education, those appear to be the "butt bones" for the bouncing butt physics. Not 100% sure, but pretty dang close :)

Thanks but like I said I've already tried all the skeletons I know. From that CHSBHC mod, the regular nonBBP CBBE mod, and another one from the CBBBLE mod. I even tried to replace the body nif files (femalebody_01 etc) with CBBE, CHSBHC, CBBBLE, nothing works. >_<

In that case, my best guess is that the armor was poorly weighted and/or designed. Did you read over the comments to see if others were having similar issues as you? Edited by kingtitan

No this armor was working fine a few days ago. =/

It must be something wrong with the skeleton or body files... that's the only files that armor should depend on right? Textures or animations shouldn't affect how armor looks?

Back in Oblivion this would be a skeleton issue, causing the mesh to stretch to infinity.

That would likely be a skinning issue. either something like zero weights/weighted to bones that don't exist. which would be an issue with the model nif not the skeleton.nif. Or you are trying to use some outfit that is made for a body mod, that has it's own skeleton, and not actually using the body mod.

You didn't say in your OP, but have you done any modifications to the armor or meshes?

As Ghogiel says, It looks to me like the skinning issue I had with meshes, when the X,Y,Z, co-ords don't match between the NiTriShape and the BSDismemberSkinInstance

Nope I've made no edits to the armor (don't know how anyways).

Are there other files that could affect how armor is displayed? What about the "defaultfemale.hkx" in character/characters female, and "mt_behavior.hkx" in character/behaviors? I've pretty much cleared out the character/character assets and character/character assets female folders and replaced with various skeletons/bodies 10 times now. *.*

Update: Thanks for all your help guys.

I have fixed the problem now. There indeed is a minor problem with the skirt of the outfit. I removed the skirt and now everything is fine. But the weird thing is I was 100% sure the skirt was working before a few days ago, and I'm also 100% sure I didn't mod the outfit in any way (I didn't even download nifskope til yesterday lol)... :whistling:

Kind of like haunted file lol.
