Edg3k
OK i've seen this topic a few times BUT I wanna clarify something. Basically, I reinstalled my game last night from the ground up and reinstalled ALL my mods, but when I did, the heads had the annoying Grey Face. This is annoying due to the fact that I had over 50 new NPC's added to the game. I had ctrl+f4'd them when I created the mod and they were working, but now that I've reinstalled the mods after a wipe they've gone back. So i opened up CK and selected them all, hit ctrl+f4 and exported the facegen again, this worked, but, WHY! Why didnt it save to the esp instead of, well, whatever it did. I read somewhere they they go into the texture folder, but jesus thats awkward. Is there a way around this? Because If i have to do this for all my NPC added mods after a reinstall I'm going to kill someone! If I save as an ESM will that fix it? Im just throwing this out there, there has to be a way to fix it permanently.
Arthmoor
It didn't save into the ESP because ctrl+f4 generates texture files for the NPCs. There's nothing broken here to fix, you just need to make sure you gather up the files for these. They'll have files in: meshes\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom\<filename for the mod>textures\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\FaceTint\<filename for the mod> Also, in the texture folder, there will be .dds and .tga files. You only need to keep the .dds files there along with the meshes from the other folder. Edited May 6, 2012 by Arthmoor
Thandal
Might let us know what game is involved, then we'll move the entire discussion to the appropriate sub-forum. :whistling:

If you packed those texture files into a .BSA and matched the file name with the .esp, that should also take care of the issue, although there seems to be some weird issues with ESPs and BSAs, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Converting the ESP to an ESM could help, but isn't recommended if you're planning on editing or changing the file in any significant way.
mojodajojo
Edit: Nvm, answered my own question through testing. And thanks for that info about file location, Arthmoor, it proved to be useful. Previous to you posting that, I had an uploaded file missing some stuff it needed to prevent Lydia from looking like she was starring in Taco's Puttin' on the Ritz video. Edg3k
Hey guys sorry for the lack of replies, been dead busy. Yes it was for Skyrim. Anywhoo! Its slightly annoying, because it means anyone who downloads my mod is going to have this issue right? Ive exported the facegen but always figured it would be saved in the .ESP once it was done. I've noticed other peoples mods with the grey face issue but then again I've seen some with only .ESPs for their mods and never seem to have the issue with the grey face (god i hope that sentence made sense) Oh and this is kinda off the main topic, but when I changed Farkas armor to the wolf armor and then do the Companion quests he resets to the normal armor, is there a way around that?
