SubjectProphet
So, just curious here, I have the 1.4 patch because I hear 1.5 just makes the bugs worse. I've blocked Steam from running completly (firewall, task manager, etc.) so it can't auto update, hog my RAM, and ruin my game. Now that I've read the description fully of 1.5, I actually want it, but there's a proccess that's blocking Steam that I can't find on my computer, so I can't use Steam to update. So, is there a way to upgrade my game without having to use Steam? I want the 1.5, but whatever program that's blocking Steam is unknown to me. ginnyfizz
No, there is no other way to patch, just...don't even talk about it here. You are going to have to allow Steam back somehow. It is the only way you can patch. Firstly, what OS and what firewall are you running? I have had issues with AVG and some game exes, specifically Guild Wars 2, and had to write a specific rule to make AVG firewall allow me to play the games. SubjectProphet
I'm using both Norton 360 and AVG express. Neither of them are it, I've tried. Disabled everything on both but Steam is still blocked.

thompsonar
You didn't download that mod/utility that blocks steam access did you? Also have you checked under the windows security features? Windows defender or whatever it's called, is that enabled? Not sure of anything else that could be blocking it.
ginnyfizz
I don't know if this will help, but this is one way of getting AVG to accept programmes it has previously blocked - can do it for any other exe as well. Be sure to d/l the dudes PDF file;- Firewall rules
Anya29
Have you edited or installed a HOSTS file, that could have the steam server listed as a blocked site?
