ZeMantras
hey guys, recently decided to drop into skyrim again after beeing away for a few years, unfortunately having problems here, game crashes restarting my PC. Sometimes wen i want to savegame, other times wen i want to go into inventory, *this doesnt seem to happen wen i roam around in the world, just walking around, i sometimes press C and leave my character roam around for a wile, too see if i get a crash ::: LOAD ORDER:::: Copied from LOOT 00 Skyrim.esm 01 Update.esm 02 Dawnguard.esm 03 HearthFires.esm 04 Dragonborn.esm 05 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp 06 SMIM-SE-Merged-All.esp 07 SkyUI_SE.esp 08 Obsidian Weathers.esp 09 Obsidian Mountain Fogs.esp 0A Mortal Enemies.esp 0B Dodge Mod.esp 0C Combat Evolved.esp 0D Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim.esp 0E 50 More Perk Points.esp 0F Joy of Perspective.esp 10 iHUD.esp 11 Vigilant.esp 12 Vigilant Voiced.esp very light in scripts as u see ::: TEXTURES ::: iam using around 80+ texture mods, main ones beeing the SKyrim 2017 textures Pfusher + Book of silence (oldrim textures - just using the ones that dont come with meshes) + RUSTIC gamwich (using his Skyrim SE textures and some of his older textures from oldrim aswell, again, everything that comes w meshes iam not installing. i also have no grass/tress textures using them as vanilla (heres the list of textures iam using - https://pasteboard.co/HnhhG8w.jpg am i overdoing it? i tought i could take this load ) Is using Oldrim textures a problem? I have ENB, my own settings, pretty light actually, pretty much just using it for the Ambient occlusion and doing the vsync+framelimit there aswell - ENB doesnt seem to make a change, game crashes with it uninstalled anyway ::::: SPECS: :::: These are my specs, copyed from DXDIAG.exe Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Processor: Intel® Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~4.0GHz Memory: 32768MB RAM ddr3 Page File: 9363MB used, 56072MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Card name: AMD Radeon MSI R9 390x Display Memory: 3815 MB Dedicated Memory: 4071 MB Shared Memory: 3840 MB (Dxdiag.exe is saying 4gb but my card has 8gb, is this normal? or a clue?) PSU: Nox Hummer 850w Bronze ( crappy PSU dont even consider touching them) MOBO: ASrock z97 Anniversary ::updates:: - updated gfx drivers to latest, - updated dx11 - updated bios (with march2018 new update i got for my z97) - Got windows service pack1 (i turnoff windows updates, i usually ~just install manually has i need them, any important windows updates skyrim se needs? can list wich updates i have install) Iam currently testing more games, ill try to make for a heavy session in Ghost recon wildlands in a few days, pretty heavy game in resources uses all my cpu resources and pushes my graphics card a lot - so far never have crashes in that game MY SKYRIM INI SETTINGS: https://pastebin.com/PWLzq3Dc :: Clues :: -- MSI kombustor benchmarks and tests run okay, ran for 30min atleast no problems... First problem happens wen i used MSI afterburner (default settings no OC) and tried to open Msi kombustor at same time, that makes my PC RESATART aswell - Hard crash  ! -- Also another wierd sign/clue i got, was skse64_loader.exe never loaded wen i have MSI Afterburner ON (just using it for monitoring / default settings / NO OC) , this is a wierd one, tested many times... i ended up uninstalling MSI afterburner  -- I cleaned the dust from case and components, PSu is making no wierd noises its very clean (EdiT: TIP:::: if you wanna hear the PSU, turn all your fans to minimum/silent mode, i will able to notice it alot clealer, in my case it made the difference...) Hate to make these kind of posts but iam kinda gutted n confused too, my PSU isnt rly making clicking noises or other types, but yes my first bet would be that, how ever cant seem to crash in other games, can u recommend me a few more benchmarks? (besides msi kombustor) sad! i just got into skyrim again, played Forgotten cities, was blowned away w the quality...!! and was trying new quests (using vanilla save for each new quest - then using console comands to get my stats back (boring  again iam trying to be careful here w mods, but maybe i went full retard on textures... donnoo) Thnks Edit: Ran more tests, FurMark just crashed my PC aswell in the start of a test (so temperatures werent rly high yet), that plus the crashes with MSI Afterburner+Kombustor... leaves me to conclude that this is probably PSU related, will try to get a new one this week... this time an Evga 80plusgold and test again Edited June 6, 2018 by ZeMantras
LeddBate
I think you're on to something. A bad PSU is indeed a prime candidate for CTDs and random restarts. The only other thing I can think of is if your CPU's thermal paste has dried out too much and is no longer conducting heat away from the CPU properly. THAT can cause thermal overloads rather quickly once the heat reaches a certain level. Edit: Unless you're using a water block cooling loop. In which case, nevermind. QuagaarWarrior
Completely agree - never skimp on a PSU. A good one will last years anyway
darkForceArmy
Hi, I had the same problem. The game was also constantly crashing. I also thought that the problem was in Psu, but it turned out that my PC wasn't so powerful. Then I, of course, found pc optimization software, cleaned up the computer, set up the system and everything went like clockwork. Now I calmly play the game, and it doesn't crash at all. I see that your problem was different, but my reply can be useful for somebody.
