Crash to desktop as soon as I attempt to loot a new gun

Been a long time user of mods that I decided to become a lifetime supporter a couple days ago. Modders do amazing work.

I recently got back into both Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE. As you may expect, some of the mods I use had updates, to which I updated a few of them. I used Loot to handle the order of mods. There were many ITMs and deleted references. Lauched the game until I came across a couple of ferals at the bridge while looking for Kellog. I had Piper, Dogmeat, and the one mod follower Heather Casdin with me. One of them had a Winchester 2100 (new loot). As soon as I try to loot that feral, game CTD. No warnings, no errors. So I assumed it was time I try to clean some of the files using FO4edit. Followed Gopher's YT tutorial to the tee (if there is a newer vid, please let me know). Ran Loot, and all ITM and deleted references were no longer there. Though some navmeshes were not retrievable in a couple of mods. Launched the game at that save point, and when I attempted to loot the feral with the Winchester again, I got to the screen where the gun appears and text appears, but a second later, CTD. So it was slightly more stable to get to that screen after the cleaning, but no dice. Im assuming this will continue to happen whenever I attempt to pick up a new weapon for the first time.

Anyone experienced this CTD? What could be causing the instability? I am using the first 20 top all time mods (includes AWKCR, craftable ammo, DEF_UI, HUD framework, Any mod any weapon). I suppose I can try to disable all the mods, but was wondering if anyone knew which specific mod that might be causing the issue, to possibly delete or avoid. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Would be important to know if you get those crashes on every new weapon or only on specific ones.

If it occurs on every new weapon, there's probably some conflict or incompatibility - which can be very hard to track down..

If you get a CTD looting a specific weapon, it's probably the mod that adds that weapon. CTDs on specific weapons can be caused by missing meshes or other asstes, but also by corrupted meshes / errors in the mod itself.

As a first step, I'd reinstall the mod that adds the Winchester 2100 and try, if that fixes it.

I didn't attempt to loot another new weapon yet, but I am assuming it's that specific weapon. I'll try to run the game and confirm (let you know). Thanks for responding.

Like algabar says, when a weapon is missing its meshes, the game will crash the minute you hover over it in an inventory because there's only the reference to the weapon, not the visual aspects of it and the game will CTD when trying to visualise something that isn't present in the game (contrary to missing textures, where the meshes are present but not the texture and the mesh will look pink/purple-ish).

So, if it's not an error in the mod itself, re-installing the mod that has the weapon will most likely set things right. A manual install may be necessary, in some cases.

I see. I have a good number of weapon mods added to the game. So I'll have to find the one that included the Winchester. Thanks for the tip.
