Isilmeriel
I'm hoping to create a tileset for skyrim in 3ds max. How should I set up Max's units and the viewport grids to ensure a functional snap-to-grid system in CK?
Ghogiel
Default max units. Use multiples of 2 for the dimensions. 8, 64, 128, 512 etc. you may have to deviate from concept to make it work. Do so instead of using any weird dimensions. then figure out the minimum snap distance that all the pieces fit to. If it is really modular then something like a door frame that transitions from one room to another would be the smallest/thinest piece, depending on what is it all shaped like then that piece might have to be about 8 units. Isilmeriel
128 units = 6 ft right?
Ghogiel
in game, that's roughly correct. In max by default 1 generic unit = 1". but you can ignore that fact in BGS games.
Isilmeriel
Kickass, thanks! What are you working on these days, Ghogiel?
Ghogiel
Half of the time as an artist for this mod http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/Which mostly consists of environment work and hard surface if I am lucky. I've done a crap load of buildings, some trees, and a ton of optimisations which should start to work its way in the next few updates. The other half of the time I am working on characters. Not for anything in particular. Pointless acts of art. Been trying to pull nice portfolio shots from all my old art this week though. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/lego-botz/wipz/were21.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/lego-botz/wipz/Knight5.jpg
Isilmeriel
Very nice, love the knuckles on the sharkman. Been wanting to do some mechanical hard surface stuff myself lately, can't think of what to make.
