Vindekarr Posted May 16, 2012 Share Posted May 16, 2012 I have a very serious-recurring-internet issue, namely my download speed is beyond pathetic, at 1.2 - 6.8 KBPS DLSPD with about 49000 - 629,000 MS latency from a server less than ten miles away. Most of the time it's at about 6-7 MBPS DLSPD, and 8-20 MS latency from that server, and about 3 MBPS overseas, but for some reason every now and then the speed plummets well below Dialup level, and I'm looking for some help working out why. What I've done: I've called and worked with my ISP to try and resolve the issue, including fitting a new modem, having the old modem dissected, new plugs and replacing ALL ethernet cables, a new phone-line splitter, changing net settings, and on their end they've thrown everything at the problem to try and solve it. It's not software-between myself, a third party guy, and one of their techs, we've totally confirmed that. So what could it be? exterior cable damage? and how do I fix it? It's an ADSL2+ connection. Nysba Posted May 16, 2012 Share Posted May 16, 2012 Long phone-line cables between the wall and your router/modem/whatever can cause serious issues. Was having huge internets problems and the cable was like 10 meters long... switched to a waaaay shorter one, the problems went down by about 90%. Illiad86 Posted May 16, 2012 Share Posted May 16, 2012 Yep :) My ISP told me that you phone line connecting to your modem should be 10 ft. or less. Mine's always been that length so I've never suffered any connection issues. Only connection issues I ever had was my modem was dying.
