Ghogiel Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 firstly, drop messing with the mipmaps and recreate them at export to dds. In reality you will not even be able to get a normal map like the first one you posted with a height map to normal conversion. It was originally created from baking high poly geometry to the low poly real time model. What you can do to get better results is actually make a height map in photoshop. simply using any normal map program or filter over top a final diffuse map is just going to be a complete PoS almost every time. http://www.9jcg.com/tutorials/daniel_vijoi/next_gen_environment_textures/large/next_gen_environment_textures_24.jpg Also DL Xnormal, which has a set of photoshop filters and nDo (not ndo 2, ndo is a set of free photoshop action)
