WMMangus
Good Day All, I was adjusting my mod list today in FO3 using NMM and LOOT. Trying to get rid of the notice in FWE Equipment and FWE Combat Overhaul that advises me I need something from RH Iron Sights, I was installing RH Iron Sights. Installation seemed to go fine. I parsed LOOT and Applied the change. Then received a Trace Error report which crashed NMM. I parsed LOOT again to see what would happen. What happened was LOOT deactivated every one of my mods. Every. Single. One. Started FO3 and found myself standing in my boxer shorts with no weapons or apparel. At all. Not conducive to my continued good health! Restarted NMM. Found all mods still showing as activated. Deactivating and reactivating them restored them in LOOT Anyone ever hear about this before and how to keep it from happening? M48A5
Don't use LOOT to sort your load order. It does not sort Fallout 3 mods correctly. It never has. Use B.O.S.S. It is the only tool that I know of that will sort FO3 mods correctly. BOSS: https://github.com/boss-developers/boss/releases/tag/v2.3.2 You are even better off using FOMM to manage your mods for FO3. WMMangus
Downloaded and installed BOSS. Found this warning at the top of BOSS after I started it: "Warning: BOSS support for Fallout 3 is no longer maintained. Users are strongly advised to use LOOT instead when sorting their Fallout 3 load orders." I don't understand why you would be recommending a program that is no longer supported. Anyway, my real question is, is there any way to restore all the mods to an active state in LOOT without deactivating/reactivating each one individually in NMM? NMM still shows them as active; LOOT doesn't. The Data Files block at the front end of the FO3 GUI shows no boxes checked.
blackrat99
LOOT simply doesn't work well with FO3. Why it suffers with FO3 when it works well with other games I don't know but this is my experience and the experience of other modders. BOSS isn't perfect either because it relies on a master list which doesn't have all mods (though it has more than LOOT) and as you say is no longer maintained. But it does have all the big popular mods which most people use up to 2016, which, for this old game, covers 90+% of the mods you're likely to be using. And sorts them better than LOOT. Using a huge master list, BOSS basically sorts by hand, but only for the mods in its list (or at least by the hand that made it). LOOT, on the other hand, with a much smaller core list, sorts by fancy guesswork for mods not in the list, which, for FO3 at least, leads to a highly random load order for most mods. Auto-sorters are only a starting point though. After that, you need to be tweaking your load order by hand to get the best result.
