Hi everyone :D

Recently my PC crashed completely and had to be thrown away D: But I still really wanna play Skyrim and can't afford a new gaming PC.

I was wondering if I could play it on my laptop... I used a website to see if it met the system requirements and it said NO but it also said this about my PC, and that ran it fine :S I don't want to wreck my laptop because I need it for work and things, but really miss playing Skyrim D:

So here were my old PC specs:

Fujitsu SCENIC Edition X102 - Celeron 2.8 GHz

Processor: 1 x Intel Celeron / 2.8 GHz

Cache Memory: 256 KB L2 Cache

Cache Per Processor: 256 KB

Hard Drive: 1 x 40GB - standard - ATA-100

Graphics Controller: SiS Mirage Shared Video Memory (UMA)

OS Provided: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

And here are my laptop specs:

Pentium® Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz

Dual Core 2.1 GHz

4.0GHz RAM

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (build 7600), 64-bit

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Video Card

221.5 GB Free Disc Space

I'm really not worried about playing it on max settings, the minimum would be fine. I am just worrying about messing up my laptop!

Would really appreciate any help!

Thank you!!

Your PC will not run it with the SIS card I think those chips maxed out at 128-256MB and were slower than some newer Intels. Your Notebook, however, looks like it will run it, but the video is still a tad too slow. Check out this Graphics Card Hierarchy: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

See your chipset wayyyyyyyyyy down there? Even on low settings, you should expect no more than 5-10FPS. With an intel, you just can't expect much.

I would try to install a video card in your desktop PC. If you need some boosts, check out this video I made to increase performance on skyrim with low system specs: "www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHg7u6cRZ6A"

Adding all these gave about a 50-100% increase.

Hi, thanks for the reply :D But my PC did run it fine, with no frame rate problems, I just had to make sure it was on the lowest graphics settings. I'm a bit amateur with computers! If I utilise the boosts you linked in, along with the lowest possible texture and display settings, will my laptop be able to run it at an adequate speed? I'm not asking for amazing HD or anything, just a game I can play and enjoy without it completely crashing my laptop and making it useless. If the SIS card managed to run it (Which you said would not be able to) will my laptop's card manage?

Thanks very much for your reply ^^

WOW your SIS ran Skyrim? The game has to be more flexible than Oblivion ever was...

I don't know how well the SIS scored, but it turns out they are still developing those things for intel. Anyways, that intel chip will run like an Nvidia FX 5700, and if you're OK with the low FPS, then by all means, hit those performance mods.

Intel provides excellent proccesers, used in the best gaming computers. Alienware uses it, Asus uses it, every computer but one on the top 10 list for gaming computers uses an Intel.

OT: You might, setting everything to low and turning shadows off. If you do, I think the specs could get 20-35 FPS.

Check out the following links: I am running a crappy NVidia 9800GT 512MB and have been able to get things smooth and pretty with the help of some tweaks. I also found that the Skyrim official HD texture pack made my performance worse and didn't do as much for the looks of the came as some mods can do (like WATER, Static Mesh Improvement Mod, Rugged rocks, Vurt's Flora Overhaul), so I don't run it.

Nvidia's Tweak guide has something like 20 pages of tweaks, and the last few are ini and pref.ini tweaks anyone can use, and the beginning few pages discuss the basic options available to anyone by accessing Skyrim "options" on the menu.

RookieNoob's guide is also very helpful for low-end systems.

This is a nexus "mod" tweak guide (its a document, whoch you can read on the site or download if you wish) by Sunshine_N_Brick.

I just want to suggest that you take it slow, make one change at a time, and back up frequently. I found it took a lot of patience and incremental steps to get things just where I wanted them.

I tried Skyrim on my laptop tonight and it has VERY low FPS... However, this is without any of the tweaks or adjustments, so I will try the suggestions above and see if I can make it playable! Thank you so much for all o the tips and suggestions, hopefully we will get a playable game! :)
