Darkstorne
To start this off, yes I have read the guide for extracting mods :)I'm very new to gaming on a computer, as I'm used to gaming on consoles. The day that gaming on a computer becomes easy will be a happy one indeed! I always seem to run into problems whenever I try anything even slightly technical :P So here's the problem: Whenever I try extracting anything to the Oblivion\Data location, I get this really long list of text that has errors falling under two catergories. The first being 'cannot find specified filepath' O.o And the second being 'Access is denied'. I've included some screenies in the vague hope that they may help someone discern what the problem is! 1) Showing the filepath i'm selecting: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc212/d...odProblems1.jpg 2) Showing the wall of text with error messages: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc212/d...odProblems2.jpg I do have administrator priveleges, so that shouldn't be the problem. If anyone could help me out here i'd really appreciate the help and effort :) Thanks!
graffiti36
I dont know if this is the problem but if you are extracting the files ( Extract to) then you should try to do it mannually, like this:Imagine a mod called human wich had these folders: Human- Meshe- Eye-Files -Texture-/Eyes-files Something like this. With this you should try to move every each file or folder( if its a new one) to his spicified folder. For example:If you were inserting some new eye textures you would have to go to DATA then TEXTURES then CHARACTERS and finnally EYES

Albeit this can be solved in complex way better is doing the simple way. If you are at the very beginning my advise is you uninstalling it and installing at any other place. For example creating a C:\Games and installing everything related to games there is good Vista practice and avoids headaches.
Darkstorne
Thanks for replying so fast! Ok so I checked out the 'textures' folder and it only has one item in it so far, a folder called 'Effects' with one item called 'TerrainNoise.dds'Is this right? I mean, if I were to use your example again, how would I know in this case that i'd need to create another folder called 'Characters' to place 'Eyes' into, rather than just placing the file straight into 'Textures' without the subfiles? ...That sentence may sound confusing, it does a bit to me :P And of course, not all files will be texture files I assume, so would I need to create new folders for varying mods? How are you able to tell when a new folder is needed in this case?

How are you able to tell when a new folder is needed in this case?Normally you doesn't need create any folder to mods, they come with then when needed. Just be aware some mods installs in the game root folder (meaning the main folder the game is installed) this kind of mods often have a /data folder inside.Others are meant to be installed directly in the /data these often have folders named Textures, Meshes and so onAnother kind need to be unpacked in a temporary folder and from there chosen files and folders moved to the correct places. Edit: Again I stress being better you installing games aways from the infamous Vista C:\Program Files (something related with exdruxulous security means that aren't any secure but big headaches)

It would make sense, as the readme's don't say anything about sticking specific files in specific fodlers, just say to axtract them to Oblivion\Data.see anterior reply. This is a Vista issue, not games issues.
Darkstorne
see anterior reply. This is a Vista issue, not games issues. Awesome, i'll try creating a new area for games then. Thanks for the help :)
