ChuckFinly
I am interested in buying a monitor. I want to spend around $150; what is the best monitor I can buy with that bugdet? More specifically, I want a monitor that I don't have to run at its "recommended" resolution for it to still look natural. For example, a friend of mine had a 1080p monitor, but it only looked good (natural) in 1080p which created lag problems in his game (his monitor size was 22"). Also, why do HD tv's look natural in 720p, 900p, or 1080p all at once? Thanks Edited May 21, 2012 by ChuckFinly
Illiad86
You really have to run your monitor in it's native resolution otherwise it looks terrible. Mine's 1920x1200 and I tried to run it in 1080 just for the heck of it. Man, it looked horrible. Blurry, stretched out, just plain ugly :P Biggest fault about LCD/LED monitors I think, my old CRT it didn't matter what resolution you had it at, it was always crisp ;) You can still run it at it's native resolution on the desktop and then run your games at a lower resolution and they will still look fine. Don't take my word on that though, I've never tested it :P Games run fine at 1200 for me, so I've never tried 1080 or lower. Not sure with HDTVs. I think it's just because the image is stretched so heavily when you get above 32" that all the resolutions look the same. Plus, the TV shows that are in HD are recorded in 720. Most of the nicer animal documentaries are in 1080. As far as a good monitor hmm http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007617%204017&IsNodeId=1&name=%24100%20-%20%24200 Here's all the monitors in the $100-200 range on newegg. Good brands I'd recommend would be Samsung, Viewsonic, and ASUS. Acer and Hanns G monitors just look off to me. The colours aren't very vibrant on them. Dell and Gateway monitors are pretty good too. They use Samsung screens, so you are pretty much buying a Samsung. Crazy...I can't believe there are barely any 1200 monitors anymore..and if there are they cost $300 or more. Glad I caught this one at the end of the year clearance, $180
hoofhearted4
i hopefully plan on building a PC this summer, and this is the monitor ive decided on. for me, the price is perfect. and it seems to be a good monitor. great size and just what im personally looking for. 2ms response time which is slightly better then the average 5ms on most monitors (though im sure it makes little to no noticeable difference), HDMI, LCD, LED Backlit, Widescreen and all that good jazz that youd find on any good monitor. its got good reviews and its Asus, so i trust it. i realize its slightly over your price point, but its something to consider :)
Rennn
Here's all the monitors in the $100-200 range on newegg. Good brands I'd recommend would be Samsung, Viewsonic, and ASUS. My Asus monitor was very cheap, a 1440x900 for about $90, and it hasn't caused any problems. I'm not recommending a monitor that cheap, btw, I just used it as an example. There's not even any uneven edge lighting, and no dead pixels so far. I'd definitely recommend an Asus from that experience, but I've heard good things about all of those names.
