Waxman22
ok, i haven't played morrowind in what seems almost a year... i am about to jump back into my character but have one question: has gameplay improved??? by this i mean has the frame rate issue continued or has there been a patch that will fix it? or at least improve it? i have a great video card (GeForce4 Ti 4200 128mb AGP), but only a 1GHz PIII processor. any suggestions or patch info would be much appreciated. please no smart arse remarks about my processor ;) ...ty
Baphomet
I'm in a similar situation - running a 1.2Gig proc with a Radeon 8500 128Mb card. I use the Morrowind Optimizer, turn off real time shadows, keep the view distance down to around 75% and the max frame rate in the morrowind.ini file at a max of 80 (versus 240). I still get CTD's, though I get far, far fewer of them than before, and my frame rates suffer in certain areas but I don't find it a real problem. Just out of curiosity, are your drivers current for your vid card? And have you patched your game to the most recent version for your area? I have also heard that the Tribunal expansion makes for a much more stable overall game.
SothThe69th
Set Max FPS to 60 in morrowind.ini Update your drivers. Turn off Real Time Shadows. Update your drivers. Set the FPS optimizer to not show objects that are visually small UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS.
Guest Guest_Waxman22
thanks guys, i am not in front of my game pc right now so cant try yet, but i just updated my drivers less than a week ago....i will need to get the new patch, but is the newest patch the only one i need to run? or do i need to run any oldr ones first? not sure which version i am on but as i said it's been a long time since i played.....o, and one other question: what version of directX is everyone using? (i'm still on 8.1)
Rune
Yes, updating drivers is good. Try upgrading RAM also, if you have less than 256 megs that is. 1.2 Gig processor is nothing without lots of RAM. That's how my game problems were fixed.
Guest Guest_Waxman22
thanks, i forgot to mention my RAM amount...512MB so i am set in that department. still one unanswered question about directX version, but i will make a new post for thet, thanks for the replies guys..... Baphomet
Your video card will determine what version of DirectX you can use. Most decent cards will support DX8.x but if memory serves me, only the latest, hottest and fastest cards support DX9.0 Also, I believe you only need to install the most current patch for your area to bring your game up to speed. Again, I've heard that installing Tribunal (plus the associtated patch) makes the game more stable overall. That and the suggestions from previous posts should smooth things out for you greatly. HeLLL
Also <if you have XP> do abit of find and kill with all those stupid process XP loads up. Click on start --> run ---> and type <without the quotes> "services.msc" Then follow this easy guide to Administratrative Tool services tweaks. As well as increasing stability to morrowind <and your PC> your frame rate will show an improvement <will mine did any way :D >
Baphomet
Ahhhh yes... I forgot about all that cr@p that WinXP loads at startup... a good point. For the definitive guide to squeezing the most FPS out of Morrowind, I might suggest you go here: http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dTyp...e=guide&dId=
