KingUggi
HI, since a few days ny Skyrim has become unplayable. I play like 10 mins and suddenly it crashes. But onlyif I go to specific areas. Unfortunetly I cannot follow the thieves guild's quest line because the area where the target is makes my game crash. I uninstalled and reinstalled Skyrim, disabled all mods erverything. It does not worl anymore. I tried the Skyrim.exe 4 GB RAM mod but it does not work as well. Do you know how to solve this problem?
Georgiegril
The 4GB RAM mod is now obsolete, Skyrim added LAA to the latest patch. What mods do you have installed? (or recently uninstalled) and in what order? I understand you don't think it is a mod issue, but it sure sounds like one to me. Deactivating mods doesn't actually remove all traces, so problems could continue. Also if you uninstalled a mod with scripts (like UFO, better horses, etc) without following the mod authors instructions, you could still have lasting neagtive effects from incomplete removal. Also, if your uninstall/reinstall of Skyrim didn't include complete removal of all files, your new game could still partly be your old game. The other possibility could be a VRAM overload, although the fact that it happens at specific locations sounds more like a mod thing to me. SineWaveDrox
This happens to me occasionally as well. In my situation, it happens in a random location every few days, but every time it does happen, I can recreate the event dozens of times in the exact same spot. In my case, following quite a bit of testing, I am almost entirely certain it is a VRAM issue, as it always happens in a location with a wide variety of models and textures. I don't know of a solution, but I have figured out a workaround that has allowed me to continue playing, a workaround that may perhaps help you as well. Try to find a specific point at which it will always CTD or freeze. Then, when moving toward that point at which it will CTD, pause just before getting to that point, alt-tab out of the game and back in, then try to proceed past that point and see if it freezes again. In my case, doing this would allow me to continue without the game freezing. Again, it is not a solution, simply a temporary workaround that may allow you to continue playing. KingUggi
Yes, deleted the complete Skyrim folder with all files in it. I did it again this morning and activated the mods one after another carefully and only the ones I essentially need. Seems like it was an mod issue. At lest it is not crashing when I strat a new game anymore. Ill try out some locations now, if it crashes I will write again and give you a list of my activated mods. KingUggi
Everything works perfectly fine. Looks like it was a mod issue :D

Conrad92
If you use NMM is it likely that deactivating some mods will only partially remove them? I have so many CTD's its unreal but since I reinstalled Skyrim it’s only happened twice. I have a list of mods that I loaded one by one to make sure it didn’t happen due to mod incompatibility and that worked fine. Then yesterday I loaded 2 new mods and after an hour I got a CTD. So I deactivated the 2 new mods and played again... for 3 mins lol. (After 3 mins I had another CTD.) So I really don’t know whats going on!? hangarspace
Frustrating isnt it! The op mentioned location based ctd, my son recently started getting this around falkreath and after a bit of searching it sounded like this area is a bit bugged. Whilst searching on this we came across two suggests mod conflict/issues, one being smim and the other potential being SOS, both of which we have installed. Removing smim made no diffence, but for SOS there was a patch mod that I happened to have downloaded but not installed, after applying that it seems top have resolved his problem. Of course, there is no saying that this would in any way likely fix anyone else's problem, but you never know. Conrad92
@hangarspaceThanks very much! That would explain a lot, when I was testing the mods to compatibility I checked all the read-me’s and all the comments for compatibility issues and CTD’s. But didn’t check SOS because it didn’t occur to me that an audio mod would cause a CTD :s do you/your son use NMM? If so would you be able to give me a little info on how to use load orders effectively? I’ve just downloaded the crash fix, but am kinda unsure what to do with it. I clicked no to the upgrade option then ‘no to all’ and it says its activated but it doesn’t show up in the plugins... is this normal?Cheers again! kevkiev
@Conrad92 - I noticed that a crash fix is on the SOS D/L page (not sure if its the same one you're mentioning) and refers to install instructions in the archive (ie with the download). Fwiw, I changed over to the updated SOS a couple days ago and, lo and behold, my game has been super stable since. (The changelog for the new, 1.1 version reads in part: "Cleaned the ESP to prevent crashes or save game corruption.") Didn't even have try the crash fix. Anyways, just fyi.
