Im having the same issue.... every time i exit to desktop a different problem happens, sometimes it freezes up on the "brownish" view that comes up in the back ground when you hit esc, sometimes it just stays black, sometimes i can see my task bar but thats it, and for all of those i have to ctrl+alt+del to fix...

This is an annoyance almost impossible to solve. The issue is related the way the engine tries to free the memory used and can't because the part being released is necessary by another yet loaded and/or something of the kind. Technically this is known as deadlock. It's an issue that directly depends on the loaded mods, the order they were loaded and so on.

Believe me, this is the kind of annoyance that solving is more work than is worthy. Since it seems not causing problems other than annoying me I learned to survive with :)

Edit: what turns the issue problematic to resolve is we can't be sure the order the things will be released and even what is present when quiting the game.

Edit 2: Since this is directly related with so many factors, conflicting mods parts being the main source of the problem, it's nothing even Bethesda can or wish to deal.

Lets bug bethesda into a hot-fix...

Im sure they have a brainy coder willing to spend a few hours for the good of man kind

As I said they will tell they doesn't wish control the modding community. Indeed this is something they even can't unless shutting it down.
